Reactions to test screening of Aquaman praise it as an emotional action film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

After the massive success of WONDER WOMAN, Warner Bros. was, for a brief moment, finally feeling the comic-book love that Marvel had been enjoying for years, but then along came JUSTICE LEAGUE and everything came tumbling down once again. There has been some major restructuring behind-the-scenes as Warner Bros. attempts to get their DC Universe back on the right track, but they desperately need another win, and maybe, just maybe, AQUAMAN will be the film they need.

Warner Bros. reportedly held a test-screening of James Wan's AQUAMAN last night, and Batman News was able to speak with several of the people who attended. Keep your salt shaker at the ready, but the reaction towards the film, which is obviously still in an unfinished state, was quite positive, with it being described as an "emotional action movie" with elements of humour and horror as well. Compared to WONDER WOMAN in tone, Batman News says that AQUAMAN will also include STAR WARS-like underwater battles and a few scary monsters. Scroll down for a few more details, which, if you're hoping to go in knowing as little as possible, could be construed as minor spoilers.

Unlike JUSTICE LEAGUE's giant air bubble, the Atlantean characters will be able to speak normally underwater, and speaking of…speaking, Aquaman (Jason Momoa) will indeed talk to some fish in the film. An underwater race of carnivorous monsters known as The Trench will also make an appearance and secondary villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will look just as he does in the comics with the same origin. If you're a fan of orange and green, then you'll be pleased to know that Jason Momoa will wear the comic-book Aquaman costume in the film. Again, don't take this as gospel, but it's at least reassuring to believe that AQUAMAN won't be another misfire.

AQUAMAN will hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
