Read James Cameron's Avatar script! In Imax PDF!

Jan. 11, 2010by: Mike Sampson

If you're one of the many people who finds themselves depresssed that AVATAR isn't real, you can further your enjoyment of James Cameron's blockbuster with the official script. We've got AVATAR.pdf">the script for the film available for download and you can reflect back on the film, check out some of the scenes that were edited from the theatrical cut or bring it to the theater and talk along with Jake and Neytiri ROCKY HORROR style (actually, PLEASE don't do that last one).

AVATAR, it was just announced this morning, was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award for Best Original Screenplay. It'll surely be nominated for an Oscar as well despite the story being the most roundly criticized aspect of the film (I can understand any and all technical kudos but Best Original Screenplay?). Of course you can check it out for yourself and see what you think of the entire 155-page sucker. Enjoy!

This. Is. Bullshit.

The WGA appears to have lost it's mind. No District 9. No Up. No The Messenger. No Fantastic Mr. Fox. But, yes, Avatar. This is without a doubt a bullshit move. This is like when SAG gave "Slumdog Millionaire" best ensemble cast just to give it another award. You wanna nominate this film for visual effects, sound, art direction, and film editing. Go for it. But "original screenplay" is the last category James Cameron and his visual effects extravaganza should ever find themselves. Once

Once recognizing smaller films or making bold choices for otherwise overlooked films, they have now decided to take a check from James Cameron and join the room of salivating morons ready to suck him dry wearing their 3D glasses for protection while trying to utter the words "You revolutionized cinema."

Not Original...

...True, but how many truly original films are there? The Matrix? Uh, not if you watched kung-fu movies from the 70's, read manga/comics or watch anime but man it was awesome fun to watch. The Dark Knight? Not so much. It was pretty much an amalgamation of all epic crime stories (Like Heat, which in itself was a rip of a straight to DVD movie made better by a really good filmmaker etc.) but replaced with the Caped Crusader and an immense performance by Heath Ledger. It was awesome to watch..you

It was awesome to watch..you can go on and on and on with this list because every story has already been told.

It's how it's told that's important and James Cameron knows how to do this so well that the whole world practically watches. He's a great story teller.

Now that we've got that out of the way, I thoroughly enjoyed Avatar and find myself getting highly engrossed in it every time I've watched it.

That being said, please leave it alone. No sequels. None.

whatever

i believe it is a fantastic original screenplay, there was so much more to it then the basic plotlines that we've seen time and time again.

Great script.

Cameron has always been hailed for his strong scripts. Nearly every screenwriting class, seminar, & workshop I have attended listed Cameron's scripts (among others) as recommended reading. Cameron is a great screenplay writer, no doubt. He wrote one of the single best sci-fi scripts ever written with Strange Days.

All this backlash against him for being "king of the world" is laughable & childish.

Wow, I'm surprised people condem a films script because some dialogue was cheesy. I script is much much more than dialogue. Of course Tarantino proves this wrong when he writes 15 page conversations that go fucking no where and you all want to fellate him! But Cameron compresses down what could have easily been a 4 hour movie down to a very solid structure with a few clunky lines and it's apparently horrible. $1.3 billion worth of horrible and counting bitches! Boom!

It's a story about tree-hugging and pro-environment. Hollywood actors & writers eat that up!

...why would I want to read the script? The only good thing about the movie was the visuals.

Meh

a movie that has awesome visuals needs to ALSO have an original/good story to attract me.
i watched the south park episode: dances with smurfs...same basic thing but funnier.

I have no interest in seeing this movie at all. Now "Daybreakers" is a movie that I am very interested in seeing...not a live cgi smurfs movie.

ORIGINAL screenplay? I pointed out to my Dad that it was very similar to Dances with Wolves. Another friend of mine said to me its the same as Disney's Pocahontas.

Yeah, I disagree with the WGA nomination for best original screenplay. It's hardly original. Only its setting and visuals.
