Ready for a new version of The Cat In the Hat?

Mar. 16, 2012by: Alejandro Stepenberg

The Cat In the HatConsidering the fact that THE LORAX has currently made $132+ million in two weeks off a $70 million budget, I'd say it's altogether understandable as to why Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have decided to reteam for the adaptation of another 3D CGI adaptation of Dr. Seuss.

Chris Melandri of Illumination Entertainment is the primary driving force behind the sudden influx of Seuss-inspired movies, as Deadline explains: "Meledandri started the relationship with Mrs. Geisel and the estate of her husband when he ran Fox Animation and made Horton Hears A Who there. He brought over the relationship when he agreed to start a family film division for Universal."  It's nice to know that if these adaptations are indeed to continue happening, that they are at least happening with the agreement and assistance of the Geisel estate.

The same article by Deadline also mentions that the live action/animation hybrid movie about Theodor Geisel starring Johnny Depp is still very much in active exploration and development.

Extra Tidbit: Personally, I could care less about The Cat In the Hat. Give me The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins!

me and a friend were just talking yesterday about how all the seuss films have been pretty good. We talked about how the Mike Myers film was good, but didn't seem to be as good as the animated films. I suppose it's kinda hard to compare a live action film to an animated one. I did enjoy the Mike Myers film though.

I'm gonna get hated for this

but i actually liked the Mike Myers film. I personally thought it was fun and wacky.

Please dont hate me.

I think they should just move on to the next story. "O The Places You Will Go" would make a nice animated movie

To save money, just take the first one, redo it all cgi, use the same audio track and release to theaters cause no one saw the first one anyway.
To save even more money....drop the whole idea!

If you're going to remake something, remake something that sucked the first time so you can get it right. The Cat in the Hat would be a good example.

Just as long as the movie doesn't put Mike Myers in a cat suit. It might be tolerable.

Sure... whatever. It's not like the live-action film with Mike Meyers was a masterpiece or something...

Off-topic, can someone do something about that fucking annoying 3DS ad???

If you are using Firefox, download this lil plug in called No Script, you can set it to disable any and all javascript from webpages, so you can block all these silly ads and only enable what you want. Also, it keeps virus/spyware down.
