Real Caribbean pirate

Blackbeard Move over, Jack Sparrow, there's a real pirate of the Caribbean getting the big budget big screen treatment and his name is Blackbeard. DreamWorks is working on a biopic of the notorious English pirate (whose real name was Edward Teach) and they've set GLADIATOR and AMISTAD scirbe David Franzoni of scripting a story that's as profitable as the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise (they didn't say that, of course, but that's the general idea, ain't it?). Blackbeard did his looting and pillaging during what's been known as The Golden Age of Piracy during the 18th century. Former 76ers co-owner Pat Croce, an avid pirate enthusiast whose written a couple of books on pirates and even owns a pirate museum, will be producing and collaborating closely with Fanzoni on the screenplay.

Extra Tidbit: James Purefoy played Blackbeard in a 2006 TV movie.

I wondered what was taking Hollywood so long to come out with another pirate flick. After the success of Pirates of the Caribbean I was expecting some to have already come out by now. But this is good news though it will probably be more of a PG13 adventure than a historically accurate period piece. I can't wait to get the action figures!

TooTall 4 Hollywood?

BlackBeard was over 6'5"s tall.
We gonna get Tim Robbins? Could be good! Lets stay with the facts please. No Disneying this up. Hollywood hates tall people as most actors are short.

as long as it's directed by Nolan

Or some real creative director of his caliber, Ridely Scott would be a good fit too. It's a fantastic historical story, but they better not be trying to make some Jack Sparrow like child friendly fairy tale out of it.
