Rebecca Ferguson, Lea Seydoux, and Abbey Lee on shortlist for Gambit
Now that Channing Tatum has finally signed on to GAMBIT officially, it's time for the studio to narrow down their list of female leads for the X-Men spin-off. Deadline is reporting that GAMBIT director Rupert Wyatt and Fox have a trio of leading ladies testing for the role of Bella Donna Boudreaux sometime next week.
Included on the short-list are Rebecca Ferguson, who has been blowing people away as the ass-kicking Ilsa Faust in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE ROGUE NATION, Lea Seydoux, who will appear as Dr. Madeleine Swann in SPECTRE, and finally Abbey Lee, who made her feature debut in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD as The Dag and has also signed on for Nicolas Winding Refn's new film THE NEON DEMON.
In the X-Men comics, the character of Bella Donna Boudreaux had been Remy LeBeau's love since childhood. She later develops powers of her own and becomes head of the Assassin's Guild. It's not clear how closely, if at all, the new film will follow the comic origins of Bella, but whomever Rupert Wyatt and Fox choose, hopefully she'll be more than able to hold her own alongside Channing Tatum.
GAMBIT is still set for a October 7, 2016 release.
Assuming it's one of these three actresses who gets the part, who best fits the bill?
