The reboots of Daredevil and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles now have writers

4 years agoby:

Fox's reboot of Marvel's DAREDEVIL already has a director in David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, TWILIGHT ECLIPSE) and now it has a writer and storyline. (You may recall the studio has to get the project moving along, else they risk the character rights reverting back to Marvel.)

The latest version of the Man without Fear will come from writer Brad Caleb Kane ("Fringe", BROOKLYN'S FINEST). Kane will model the story after the gritty and acclaimed Frank Miller/David Mazzucchelli 1980s comic book arc, in which the criminal Kingpin discovers Daredevil's true identity (blind lawyer Matt Murdock) and uses the information to slowly dismantle the hero's life.

Kane is reportedly a big fan of the character... but then, Ben Affleck and Mark Steven Johnson said the same thing.

Meanwhile, the color-coded martial artist reptiles known as the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES are getting a fresh draft for their live-action update, courtesy of MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec.

The new TMNT is a big project for Paramount and demolitionist Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company, who most recently had IRON MAN writing team Art Marcum and Matt Holloway do a script (and for a handsome price of one million bucks).

The studio initially wanted the latest adventure of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael kicking into theaters in 2012, but that doesn't seem likely with no script or director in place.

Extra Tidbit: The "Born Again" story hit comic shelves the same year as Miller's own influential book "The Dark Knight Returns".

I hope they're not using too much CGI for the TMNT Reboot.

I doubt it will happen, but it would be awesome if they could get the four original voices of the turtles from the original cartoon to do the voices in the new movie.

Don't be too sure. Cam Clarke, Barry Gordon, Rob Paulsen, and Townsend Coleman should all have free schedules.

Well, it's not that they wouldn't do it, I just wonder if they would even be asked, but you never know. We can hope.

I'm dead set against anything from Michael Bay and therefore wish that he had nothing to do with The Ninja Turtles. I loved TMNT and would have liked a sequel to it. Since they, and by they I mean everyone in Hollywood, need to make a darker version I wish it wasn't from Bay. Loud dumb and expensive, here we come.

Thumbs down commence... now.

i actually agree with u 100% there...after Transformers 2..Bay needs to stick to film like Bad Boys, Con Air and such and stay away from franchises like this..once i saw that it would be produced by his company..im dreading how this will turn out..and i had such high hope for this movie...

Funny that these are mentioned in the same article, considering that TMNT was originally developed as a parody to DD (The Foot instead of The Hand, Splinter instead of Stick, etc.). Awesome coincidence by Dave Davis or actual intention? Hmmm...

Born Again... Yeah, right !

Like FOX isn't going to bastardize this story in a kid-friendly PG fu****g 13 flick...
I still think the way they handled X-Men First Class was an exception.
BTW, I do liked TNMT too !

I wonder if they will be going the "Where the Wild Things Are" route, and have practical costumes while using CGI for facial animations. I heard that somewhere

Probably in the minority here

but I would have liked a sequel to TMNT. That fight between Raph and Leo was epic.

I didn't mind it so much. I guess the issue for me was that the original 1990 movie was near perfect (aside from a few corny things here and there) and so before the announcement of TMNT, I was hoping for a return to that, but it was good.

Wait one fucking second.
Hasn't anyone else caught the huge coincidence? TMNT was conceived as a parody of Daredevil.
