REC 3 merely a lead in for REC 4 where the Apocalypse is nigh
As it turns out, it's not a uniquely American idea to take a popular surprise hit and beat it to death with unnecessary sequels for years afterward.
Spain seems poised to pull a SAW or PARANORMAL ACTIVITY with their REC franchise. The third film is on its way, and now it's clear a fourth film is coming as well. REC 3: GENESIS is now in post production, with REC 4: APOCALYPSE to follow.
With that info via Dread Central comes the new still you see above, and here's a more detailed rundown of the new info.
"The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, the future '[REC] 4 Apocalypse.'"
I've heard "Final" before, and depending on the box office, never write off just one more go. I liked the first one, and even sort of appreciated the second, but pushing it to four seems a bit much. And (SPOILERS) didn't we learn that the zombie "virus" was actually demonic possession instead? I guess they're still going to play it like it spreads 28 DAYS LATER style despite the fact it's a faith-based initiative.
|Extra Tidbit:||Somehow despite being an almost shot-by-shot remake, the American QUARANTINE is way, way worse. I blame Dexter's Jennifer Carpenter.|
