Red 2 gets a teaser poster and (maybe) Anthony Hopkins

May. 24, 2012by:

Anthony Hopkins is being sought to play a character in next year's RED 2. The Oscar winning actor would join the already returning Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, and Helen Mirren.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Byun-Hun Lee were also announced as new cast-members. If Hopkins joins the movie he is slated to play a genius scientist who was locked up in an insane asylum.

The first RED was a lot of fun. I still love that shot of Bruce Willis standing up from the spinning car and firing his gun. The sequel will be directed by Dean Parisot, director of the cult classic GALAXY QUEST as well as 2005's not so classic FUN WITH DICK AND JANE.

There is also a teaser poster making the rounds at Cannes. Check it out.

RED 2 is slated to open August 2, 2013.

Hopefully it's just a promotional poster for sales pitch or something like that.

Where's Brian Cox?

I really loved the subplot involving Cox & Mirren, maybe even more so than Willis & Parker....Really hope he returns as well. That scene at the end when Cox came in the last minute to save Mirren is one of my favorite one from RED!

RED was quietly awesome....i still don't think it got all the credit it deserved. A sequel is well deserved.

CZJ and B-HL?

meh... I mean, where's Karl Urban? Dude rocked in the first one, would love to see him return as well... and besides the possibility of Hopkins, I don't know... I was expecting more old farts to join in on the fun and kick some ass (Clint Eastwood anyone?!)

Oh, I want! Does anyone know what the landmark on fire in the poster is? I think I read that the sequel was to be set in Europe.

RED was great

So, I'm all for a sequel.

And I really liked Fun with Dick and Jane. I thought it was very funny and it's oddly more relevant not than it was back in '05.
