Red Band trailer for The Five-Year Engagement is pretty damn funny

04.20.2012

You gotta love the red-band trailer.  They aren't totally necessary to sell a movie, but it sure doesn't hurt when the movie in question has got some R-rated humor, which doesn't always come across in a PG green-band trailer.

With that said, we have red-bander for THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT, starring Jason Segal, Emily Blunt, Rhys Ifans (The Lizard), Alison Brie, and Chris Pratt.  Segal and Blunt star as a couple who prolong their wedding engagement with mixed results.  Segal seems to be channeling the down-and-out character he portrayed from FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, which isn't too much of a surprise given that the same director, Nicholas Stoller, is at the helm of this one.

RSVP to the trailer:

Coincidentally, FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL is one of my all-time favorite comedies (particularly the uncut version) and that gets me a little psyched for this.  I didn't care much for the psuedo-sequel GET HIM TO THE GREEK (also directed by Stoller), but this looks promising.  Also, Emily Blunt is just completely adorable.  I want to put her in my pocket and carry her around all day, feeding her M&M's.

THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT opens next week, April 27, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: I'm getting a little burnt out on Jason Segal, much like Paul Rudd, but I still think he's an entertaining dude. Maybe, just, a little less of him is in order.

Even though I'm getting a little tired of a Segel o verdose as well

I do actually think the guy has more range than he has shown the last couple of years. He played a recurring character on Undeclared, who always cracked me up. But more importantly was quite different from the types of characters he usually plays. I think he's a bit like Ben Stiller or Albert Brooks. Not when it comes to star status of course! But Stiller and Brooks play the same part 9 out of times, but whenever they do something different, they're usually excellent. Making me(and I'm betting

Not all red band trailers are good, just like the one for Ted, just a bunch of F bombs & i found the regular trailer i saw with American Reunion much funnier.

EXTRA TIDBIT

I was talking to some friends about Segel a couple weeks ago. His shtick is getting old and his acting ability seems very limited. Itís evident in the trailer for Jeff Who Lives At Home. I think he peaked with Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Also the whole [link] bit is wearing thin for me too. Knocked Up was great, and I can get Katherine Heigl falling for Seth Rogen, because she seems like sheís off the fucking deep end anyway. Sarah Marshall has believability too, because Segelís character

Also the whole [link] bit is wearing thin for me too. Knocked Up was great, and I can get Katherine Heigl falling for Seth Rogen, because she seems like sheís off the fucking deep end anyway. Sarah Marshall has believability too, because Segelís character works in Hollywood and people are very superficial out here and mostly care about status. So thatís how he can land someone like Kristen Bell. As for Mila Kunis, well her character is quite damaged so they connected that way.

Donít get me wrong, There are many couples out there where one half is way more attractive than the other. Sometimes itís an accent thatís not American that makes someone attractive. I just donít buy someone like Alice Eve falling for Jay Baruchel in Sheís Out Of My League. And now Iím supposed to believe Emily Blunt pairs up with Jason Segel believably? I donít think so.
