Red Dawn propaganda

Sep. 30, 2009by:

Well, this new batch of photos from the RedDawn2010 fansite confirms my suspicions that yes, the RED DAWN remake has officially ditched Russian and Cuban invaders in favor of the Chinese, and yes, they’re actually calling it “China” instead of “a large eastern superpower.”

If this is the case, this movie might shape up to actually be a pretty controversial project. Picture a film that shows middle American all overrun with Asians in military uniforms telling us they’re going to make our country better through communism. I foresee this might upset a few multicultural organizations and possibly China itself. Either way, I think this project just got a lot more interesting.

Check out these pieces of propaganda below to see what I mean, and click to head over to the fansite for the full collection.

Extra Tidbit: Yes, I realize the original film was released around when we were actually sparring with the Russians, but I feel like people are a lot more sensitive these days.

When's this gonna happen for real?!?

I'm kind of digging the Chinese invaders in this movie. Repairing our economy, fighting corporate corruption, restoring my country. I think I might welcome a chinese invasion if that's what they're going to do!

I was afraid it might be worse.

The posters are interesting, and I do like the ballsy move, but I have yet to be impressed by any of it.

anyone want to bet weather china bans EVERYONE in this movie from ever entering their country? -- it is an interesting choice and i think i will watch this when it comes out, its something a of a different flavor compaired with all the action and super powered movies.even if it is a remake.

Lookin'... well believable, for current times- China would probably be the only nation on Earth ballsy enough and equipped ($$$) to try something like this-North Korea have always been the henchmen of the Chinese -like Cuba was used by the powers that be in Russia for decades back....so, North Korea would certainly be here with the Chinese at some point. This will be very interesting to see how the media handles the films premise once on their radar, can't wait!

Reminds me of

It sorta reminds me of "V" (the 80's sci-fi show) with the whole campaign, because the Chinese are making themseleves out to look "good". At least it still keeps in check with the title. The "Chinese Red".

Pretty Cool

That could be very provocative... Which is good. Speaking of how violent the original was... Anybody know how long it kept its title of being the film with the most violent act in it?

This Red Dawn remake looks more like an updated remake of the 80's miniseries Amerika starring Kris Kristofferson. They should put North Koreans and Iranians in this film instead of chinese.

Is this R rated?

I can't believe their remaking it but it better be as violent as the original.

Yes it may have been PG-13 then but now you couldn't get away with that stuff without it being an R. I mean the first scene of the movie the teacher gets a bullet to the head.

Sighs

They should have given this movie some real balls and set it in 1984, with Soviets and Cubans. The Chinese just aren't a credible enough threat. People actually thought we were gonna have to face Crazy Ass Ivan back then. This just feels contrived. It just underscores that the Commies lost.
