Redacted poster

Oct. 3, 2007by: Ben Barna

When REDACTED premiered at the Venice Film Festival, it won Brian De Palma the Silver Lion award for best director, which is a tad surprising, because a) De Palma hasnt been able to recapture the form of his glory days, and b) because Ive read some scathing reviews of the film.

The film is essentially a dramatization of the real-life rape and murder and of a 14-year-old Iraqi girl by U.S. troops, who killed her sister and parents as well. I cant believe I havent heard about such a heinous story on the news. Maybe thats what happens when the only thing you care about is whether Lauren and Heidi will be friends again on THE HILLS. Either way, weve got the poster for you right here, which you can check out BELOW. It isnt anything special, but it certainly gives off that docudrama feel. You can see the film for yourself in November.

Extra Tidbit: Terrence Malick credits seeing De Palma's films for making him change his major from philosophy to film.

I'm pretty sure that Terrence Malick has a philosophy degree, not a film one, considering he taught philosophy at a university for a year after graduating.

Story / Tagline note

A really shocking and disheartening story that I clearly remember being in the news. I'm curious to see what De Palma does with it.

"Truth is the first casualty of war." But didn't the tagline to Platoon tell us that the first causalty of war was innocence?

Can't believe it either.

The Mahmudiyah murders were reported on extensively by the media, US and international.

Maybe Ben was watching Fox...
