Release dates announced for World War Z & My Big Fat Greek Wedding sequels

Paramount has locked in a release date for its WORLD WAR Z sequel. The studio has announced it will be in theaters on June 9, 2017, and it will open against the FANTASTIC FOUR sequel, although there's a good chance one of them will be moved to a different date. THE IMPOSSIBLE's J.A. Bayona will direct the film from a script by LOCKE and Peaky Blinders screenwriter Steven Knight, and Brad Pitt is expected to reprise his role as former UN investigator Gerry Lane.

Steven Knight on writing the WWZ 2 script from earlier this year:

I thought, ‘why not? What fun.’ It’s not quite like the other, we’re starting with clean slate. When they’ve signed off we’re on.

Universal has also announced a release date for an upcoming sequel. MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING 2 is now set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. There's a little movie opening on the same date you may have heard of called BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, and while I'm sure HBO, Gold Circle and Playtone think this is good counter-programming for those not interested in seeing the highly anticipated comic book movie, I doubt the film is going to perform as well as the first one did at the box office. Stars Nia Vardalos and John Corbett will be back for the sequel (with Vardalos is again writing the script), and Kirk Jones (WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU'RE EXPECTING, EVERYBODY'S FINE) is set to helm the planned movie.

Having done a Wiki on the World War Z book...I was really excited for the movie (I really love all the ideas explored in the book)...and it's a real shame that isn't what we got. That said, if you're prepared to look at this movie as just a zombie movie...it's a very entertaining watch with a great theme tune... and I look forward to a sequel.

Having never read the original source material, I really like World War Z for what it is - fast-paced zombie movie. A sequel would be nice but no more Pepsi ad at the end. As for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, it's been so long since the first movie. I'm guessing it'd be named My Big Fat Greek Reunion.

Enjoyed the first World War Z immensely, and I hope that Brad Pitt's character returns for continuity reasons. Excited to see where else they take the story next.

I would check out a sequel to World War Z. I never read the book it was based on and I'm aware there were some flaws with story in translation to screen. But overall they had a pretty good movie on screen regardless of how close it was to the source material. And I think there's definitely enough room left for more stories to tell in the zombie war.

But a Big Fat Greek Wedding sequel? How the hell would that work? My only guess is it will be another character in the family getting

But a Big Fat Greek Wedding sequel? How the hell would that work? My only guess is it will be another character in the family getting married with the two stars helping guide them along? In which case why even bother with a sequel b/c that sounds dumb. Or the plot will be around them having kids or something, but then why call it Big Fat Greek Wedding 2? (Big Fat Greek Kids, maybe?)

World War Z wasn't as bad as some people said it'd be
