Release dates set for Need for Speed and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2

Jul. 10, 2012by: Alex Maidy

Some major release announcements came down today for the end of one franchise and the potential start of another.

DreamWorks Studios NEED FOR SPEED film, directed by ACT OF VALOR's Scott Waugh, will be released by Disney on February 7, 2014. The driving game will be potential competition for the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise. No word yet on what the storyline will be for that film.

Lionsgate will take a page from THE TWILIGHT SAGA and stretch THE HUNGER GAMES for as much as they can. THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 1 will hit theaters November 21, 2014 and THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY PART 2 on November 20, 2015. I am not a fan of releasing films that are a single narrative story one year apart. It has the distinct aroma of money-grubbing rather than creative reasoning.

It was kind of inevitable that THE HUNGER GAMES would happen, but seeing that NEED FOR SPEED will hit in 2 years is adding another big budget film to a calendar year that is shaping up to be pretty big for Disney.

Holy fuck! So they WERE serious about a NFS movie. I'm not pumped-up for it I'm totally bummed out for words. Then again the Fast and Furious franchise will (pun intended) run out of gas soon or maybe not we'll end up with NFS going head to head at the box-office with Fast/Fur10us: The Outback Riders or whatever.

Blech on Hunger Games 3a/3b

The books really went downhill after the first book. It became painfully clear that the author didn't know shit about human relations with how she handled the whole Peeta/Katniss/Gail triangle. And the nonsensical storyline of the rebels just made me want to stop reading. I finished it out of spite, but that won't stop the retards and teens from shelling out their parents hard earned cash to see this shit.

We can only hope that a good scriptwriter steps in to make the 2nd and 3a/3b

I look at it as them not cutting out huge parts of the book to make a 2:30 hr movie. Very few people would sit through a 4 hr movie so I dont have a problem with this.

I'd rather pay once for a four hour movie than pay twice to see the film in halves.

Agreed. It's been done with Kill Bill. I don't see what's wrong with splitting films now.

The third book doesn't have enough "required" material to justify two movies. If you take that logic, then Hunger Games itself should've been two movies, as its a much better book than Mockingjay and just as long.

Of course they fucking are gonna split it...

Why'd they make this a thing?
Why not have every adaptation be split up? Aronofsky's NOAH parts 1 & 2.
The Great Gatsby parts 1 & 2.
Why make a sequel when we can split one damn movie into two? GENIUS!!!

"No word yet on what the storyline will be for that film"
I fear it won't change even after the movie was released.

I really hate Harry Potter for starting this trend of splitting books up into two movies.

I think The Hobbit did it first.

Unless you live your life through some kind of reverse time loop, I'd like to point out that 2010/2011 (HP 7a and 7b) came before 2012 (Hobbit part 1).
