While it probably won't get nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars like UP should, CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS was still one of the very best animated films of the year. It was surprisingly funny and engaging all while taking advantage of the 3D format in ways that many movies don't. If you missed it in theaters thinking that maybe it was too kiddie for your tastes (it's definitely not), you may have a chance to rent it for free.

Sony is offering up a very interesting proposition for consumers who own specific Sony HDTVs or Blu-ray players. They're offering a 24-hour rental of CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS for free four weeks before the DVD/Blu-ray release. From December 8, 2009 through January 4, 2010 customers who buy a networked Sony Bravia HDTV or Blu-ray Disc player and register the device will be entitled to the free download. Customers who already own networked Bravia equipment will be able to rent for $24.95.

It's an aggressive, synergistic strategy from Sony who are looking to promote a) the upcoming DVD release of CLOUDY and b) their HD equipment for the holiday season. Would a free download make me want to buy a Sony TV? Not sure but it's an interesting idea and one that Sony could continue to offer consumers in the future...

I absolutely love how some of these people are FREAKING. THE FUCK. OUT. over a simple neat little pack in for a blu-ray player. Seriously, are extra small perks coming with expensive media equipment a new thing for you guys? Have you been living in some strange caveman world where this just doesn't happen on penalty of death of it does? Jesus, you guys act like you don't get a free fucking...

Why is people trippin on this news? Its not like anybody is going to go buy a freakin Sony Bravia HDTV just to watch the movie before it comes on dvd... This MIGHT be the people who's getting others(or themselves) gifts for the holidays, why not add something a little more nice to it, and not to mention cool as f**K... like a good free movie to watch right before the holidays(or afterwards if...

Whats wrong with that? I do agree though that people who already own Bravia equipment have to pay 24.99 for this, thats outrageous... I mean c'mon IFC has movies STILL IN THEATRES for $5.99 On Demand

Great film
It's a great film, funnier than UP! but next year's Oscar should be CORALINE.

i dont care if the film is a fucking masterpiece, no one is going to go out of their way to buy a specific, probably more expansive, HD setup just for a chance to see this movie a whole 4 weeks before other people. and god forbid you actually have the equipment already, because then you have to pay more then the regular DVD is actually worth just to rent it. kind of a stupid idea regardless of...
