German production company Constantin Film has announced plans for new television spin-off series based on the RESIDENT EVIL and THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES movies.

The plans were revealed at the Mipcom TV market over the weekend, and Variety is reporting after the next RESIDENT EVIL movie (which last we knew was being delayed due to Milla Jovovich‘s pregnancy) Constantin will turn their attention to making it into a TV series. No word on if Jovovich will be reprising her role from the films for the series.

Since the movies have done solid business at the box office, I can at least see why they might be interested in turning RESIDENT EVIL into a TV show, but really, THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES? The YA adaptation received horrible reviews from critics, and made less than $100 million worldwide. I know the books are popular, but it doesn’t seem like that many fans ended up going to see the film.

While I’m sure there are a few movies you’d all like to see be made in TV series, UNCLE BUCK definitely isn’t one of them, and I also highly doubt there’s much interest in a MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series. And although it could work as a TV project, I’m a little done with RESIDENT EVIL. I wasn’t planning on checking out the new film, and unless they have fantastic sounding plans for it, I’m probably not going to bother with the TV series either.

What are your thoughts on the planned RESIDENT EVIL and THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS TV series?
