Revenge's Emily VanCamp has the leading female role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

02.01.2013

Felicity Jones, Allison Brie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anna Kendrick, Emelia Clarke, Jessica Findlay Brown, Teresa Palmer and Imogen Poots were all rumored to be on a shortlist for the female leading role of Sharon Carter (niece of Peggy) in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER. Guess who got it?

Emily VanCamp.

You're telling me that out of all the above ladies that VanCamp came out on top? I'm starting to question if any of them actually tested because of this decision. Enough mean spirited comments, this young lady can be seen on ABC's REVENGE. She was also on BROTHERS & SISTERS as well as the WB drama, EVERWOOD. I haven't seen much of VanCamp so maybe she will be a great person for this part. Who knows?

The film takes us back on a journey with Cap who, "stumbles across an old ally long thought dead he uncovers many secrets S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) desperately sought to keep from him. Add in the nefarious Crossbones (Frank Grillo) acting on the orders of a larger threat and Captain America will need all the allies he can find to save his long lost friend."

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and starring Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Emily VanCamp, Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo and Toby Jones hits theaters April 4, 2014.

Wow. I actually really like this news. She's really attractive, and from what I can tell in Revenge a good actress. I didn't know who Haley Atwell was before Captain America, and she was great in her role, so I'm more than willing to give this a chance. Although the story doesn't say who the lead female is, which is interesting.

Also can't wait to see Anthony Mackie kick some ass as The Falcon.

She's a pretty good actress. It will be pretty interesting to see the chemistry between her and Cap.

If it is in fact for the role of Sharon Carter, Jessica Findlay Brown or Alison Brie would have been a better choice. Emily VanCamp just doesn't seem to be right for the part. The Russo Brothers made Community and Arrested Development though, so I trust they know what they're doing.
Hopefully I'm wrong about her.

It's more likely...

..she'll be Peggy's grandniece, not her niece. I guess. Or granddaughter ? We know from the Avengers deleted scene that Peggy is still alive, but we don't know if she ever got married.
Anyway, I'm glad VanCamp got the part. She'll be good as Agent 13. And if she really does her fight scenes in Revenge (shame on me for watching that show), that's certainly one of the reasons why she got the part.

I'm glad she's getting more work with Revenge. I tuned out after season one, but for the most part liked what I saw, in that guilty pleasure kinda way. Plus I remember her from Everwood, and while I don't know much about the character, I don't doubt that she can make it work.

Bummed it isn't Brie...

considering she's very talented and i seriously lust after her, with that said Vancamp will do fine in the role.

While I would have loved to see Alison Brie in a Marvel movie, I trust Marvel enough to know this is probably for the best.

Good casting...but why still an mid-spring release?

I do understand the studio's whole wanting a "tentpole release date in April" due to the recent success' of Fast & Furious 4 & 5...but i'm still scratching my head as to why Cap 2 would get stuck w/ that date. (the 4/4/14 seems so much more appropriate for the "Fantastic Four" reboot if Marvel could've gotten it out of development hell...Thanks alot FOX!!!!)

Granted if Marvel put "Winter Soldier" in The First Avenger's previous late July slot it'd be going up against the 2nd weekend's of

Granted if Marvel put "Winter Soldier" in The First Avenger's previous late July slot it'd be going up against the 2nd weekend's of both "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" & "The Hobbit: There and Back Again". (1 of which I'm 100% will move) I mean so far, Summer Movie Season 2014 looks like this:

May 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2

May 9
[EMPTY]

May 16
Godzilla
Ninja Tutles

May 23
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes

May 30
The Good Dinosaur (Pixar)

June 6
[EMPTY]

June 13
Jurassic Park 4

June 20
How To Train Your Dragon 2

June 27
Transformers 4

July 2
Maleficent

July 11
[EMPTY]

July 18
The Hobbit: There and Back Again
X-Men: Days Of Future Past

July 25
[EMPTY]

Aug 1
Guardians of the Galaxy

My wishlist release calendar: Push up "X-Men: DoFP" to June 6th, keep "Hobbit 3" on July 18th & plant "Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier" firmly in the slot of June 20th.

I'm disappointed it wasn't Brie either but none of those actresses, other than maybe Anna Kendricks because of Twilight-fame, are a significantly bigger names than Emily VanCamp. EMILIA Clarke, Alison Brie, and Jessica Findlay Brown have done nothing out of television, and everybody else have been basically supporting actresses in mid-tier films.
