Rex becomes a bath toy raver in new Toy Story short Partysaurus Rex

It looks like Rex, the lovable T-Rex from the TOY STORY series is about to cut loose and let his inner animal unleash in the short, entitled PARTYSAURUS REX, which is set to debut in front of FINDING NEMO 3D.

“He’s sick of being the angel of goodness and sensibleness and caution and fear,” says voice actor Wallace Shawn, who has played the character since 1995. “He wants to stand on the side of pleasure and happiness and joy. … I live this drama every day of my life!”

“What I was going for was, you move to a new town and make new friends, and suddenly you think you have this chance where you can reinvent yourself,” says director Mark Walsh. “I love that Rex, in his sweetness, thinks he can reinvent who he is in the image of a party animal.”

Rex finds the opportunity to "start over" while hanging in the bathtub with his new owner, Bonnie, from TOY STORY 3.  Using his uniquely small limbs, Rex is able to turn on the water and start a bubble-filled rave, complete with glow in the dark toys and underwater disco lights.

“If you’re a bath toy you get really intense playtime. It’s like a party,” says director Mark Walsh, who previously worked as an animator on FINDING NEMO, THE INCREDIBLES, and RATATOUILLE. “Then when the water goes down you can’t move. You’re helpless. And that’s pathetic, these guys in bottom of the tub all the time.”

Who doesn't love Rex, am I right?  His "nervous nellie" dinosaur is part of what makes the series so great and I think it's about time he got his time in the spotlight.

PARTYSAURUS REX premieres in front of FINDING NEMO 3D on September 14, 2012.

Extra Tidbit: The music for the dance sequences for the short are supplied by none other than electronica guru BT.

Where do you watch these if you dont go to the theater? I saw the Hawaii one, but not the small fry one. Do they put them on the pixar site? Or are they only on the DVD's for the movies they were in front of?

The shorts not out yet and there's already an easter egg to be found. Check out that toilet seat cover. Look familiar?

I could watch these forever.

I adore Toy Story. The characters, the world, the sense of adventure, the emotion, the humour....I bloody love all of it. Even those old Disney Channel vignettes that used to run between cartoons (Woody and Lenny having a staring contest etc). They're all on youtube for those that missed them first time around. All good stuff.
