The upcoming spoof mini-series The Spoils of Babylon from producers Will Ferrell and Adam McKay has debuted its first trailer and it looks absolutely ridiculous and completely hilarious. Starring Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig, Jessica Alba, Jellybean Howie, Val Kilmer, Haley Joel Osment, Tim Robbins, Michael Sheen, and Steve Tom, the Funny or Die series created and written by Matt Piedmont and Andrew Steele (CASA DE MI PADRE) takes a jab at the overblown mini-series’ of old, like The Thorn Birds. The six-part saga is based on the fictional novel by Eric Jonrosh (played by Will Ferrell, who will introduce each episode) tackles the tale of incest, greed, war, wealth, murder, and all the trimmings you’d expect in a melodramatic soap…only with the best lampooning in mind.
Get swept away:
“The whole show is ridiculous and I mean that in the best way,” she Kristen Wiig of the show. “The things this family goes through, the murder and the lies and the affairs, is so absurd and bizarre and written so well.” Wiig goes on to say that we can expect to see Tobey Maguire in a whole new light. “People know Tobey from more serious roles. But he made me laugh so hard. I’m so excited for people to see him in this context.” I love shit like this and the idea is brilliant. Maguire and Wiig look to be in top comedic form and it looks surprisingly well shot for a spoof. Definitely on my watch list.
