Ridley Scott reveals his title for Prometheus 2

09.24.2015

With director Ridley Scott making the publicity rounds on THE MARTIAN, he's been revealing all sorts of interesting tidbits for his upcoming sequel to PROMETHEUS. Yesterday's news clued us into the fact that there might even be 2 or 3 more sequels in the works, but now we have word from Ridley Scott himself via HeyUGuys that he has given a title to his sequel to PROMETHEUS, and that's ALIEN: PARADISE LOST.

Given that Scott has stated the ties to the ALIEN franchise "won’t be in the next [PROMETHEUS film]. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the ALIEN franchise", it's odd that ALIEN would be right up in the title of this new flick. It seems to me that most people would prefer if PARADISE LOST would actually separate itself further from the ALIEN series, but I suppose there's money to be made in a license. We'll have to wait and see if ALIEN: PARADISE LOST is here to stay or if it's just a working title.

ALIEN: PARADISE LOST, or whatever they end up calling PROMETHEUS 2, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 30, 2017.

How do you feel about Ridley Scott's title for the sequel?

Also....

......could be worse. We could get another terrible entry that gives nothing back to the universe. Like a sequel to that terrible Adrian Brody Predators, Alien vs Predator 3.

Don't care, just excited about the movie

Just happy the movie is moving forward. Loved the first one and honestly whether you were a fan or not if you saw it on the 3D IMAX visually it was probably the prettiest film. Fassbender can do no wrong and made David a great and interesting character. I want to see where they go and what happens. What's not to like?

If that's the actual plot to the movie then I will have bragging rights.

I don't mind either way. I think it would be interesting to see the possibility of the 'engineers' being wiped out by their own creation. I like the fact that the possibility of multiple planets could contain the xenomorph species giving a chance to bring back the alien franchise to the quality it deserves.

I call bullshit on this one. Could be true, I mean wasn't Prometheus the name of the ship, who knows?

"It won't connect to Alien." (1 day later) "What's it called?" "Alien."

Someone got a call from Fox in that 24 hours...
Calling it Alien when it apparently has little to do with it, is just a cheap marketing strategy. Paradise would've been a great title (especially in relation to the horrors that the destination will undoubtably have). This title will just work against the film when people realize they didn't get an Alien film again.

Also, no-one cares about seeing more of Xeno-Dolphin from the end of the last film.

Really excited and looking forward to the film, if it isn't an "Alien" movie then drop "Alien:", that and for God's sake how many times has "Paradise Lost" been used as a title?

He is throwing us through the loop here

This movie will have aliens, at least in the same form or similar to the one we see in Prometheus (pictured above).

I don't think we will get the full blown Alien from Sigourney Weaver films until a couple more films down the line, but we are basically seeing the Prometheus films as a journey of evolution for these creatures.

Interesting Title

This has me intrigued, and I wonder how much connection to John Milton's poem there might be here, at least in terms of theme. [link]

I have to admit, Prometheus does get better on repeat viewings.

Paradise is what they call the planet where the Engineers are from. The planet of life, where life began. It has been revealed that there are two main plots for this film. One in space with David and Dr. Shaw and the other on Earth... Dr. Shaw is in search of Paradise and on Earth they learn about the Xenomorphs and creatures Dr. Shaw found in the first film.

If that's the case, then the connection to Milton's poem could be that humans were created on the Engineer's home planet, and then "cast out" for some reason, which might explain why the Engineer wanted to kill the humans in Prometheus.

I guess the Alien series wants to compete with Rambo for having the most confusing title sequencing.

At least we know why this has pushed Neill Blomkamp's Alien 5 back now.

It's all in the name.

Anyway, people are stressing, it will have Aliens in it... Just maybe not THEY Alien.

I suspect Blomkamp's Alien 5 will take place in the same setting as Paradise Lost, and they wanted to use Paradise Lost as a way to introduce the setting before Ripley shows up. Paradise Lost would show the world before bad shit happens, Alien 5 would show it after bad shit happens, and then Prometheus 3-4 would show the bad shit happening.

I think putting Alien into the title is for marketing purposes only. They probably see a chance to increase their revenue by referencing a famous creature/franchise.

If this is a continuation of the story from Prometheus, Why not just called it Prometheus: Paradise Lost.

I really wish they just stuck with "Paradise" as the totel

I mean, if FOX intends on making this a connected universe they should have just taken a page out of Disney's book and called it "An Alien Story: Paradise Lost". That way Neil's sequel would simply be called Alien V and a direct continuation of the original series.

Oh boy, an Alien movie without any xenomorphs at all, just what I've always wanted! Brilliant idea, Ridley.

Paradise Lost, hein? I wonder if the title refers to Earth or to where Shaw and David are going.

I'm actually digging this. I hope this means they're actually going to incorporate things from Milton's book, as they did with the old Prometheus story, and are not just using it because it's a cool title. Also, I think his earlier comments about when they will circle back to the original movies has more to do with when the derelict ship arrives on LV-426. When they do that is really irrelevant, and inconsequential to what Ridley Scott is trying to accomplish with these new films. We're

I love the ambition, and how he's incorporating religious themes into the movies (it's no coincidence that the engineer corpses they find in the first movie are 2,000 years old, for example). Granted, the script in the first movie could've been better, but if they up their game in the writing department in this one, I'm excited.

That was my first thought as well. It appears Ridley Scott is implying that humans bring evil with them, and that Noomi Rapace's character will "destroy Paradise" purely with her arrival on the Engineers' world. I'm reminded of the scene when the explorers from Prometheus enter the room, and the mural suddenly changes with their arrival to show the Xenomorph Queen.

Something about this feels like Sam Raimi's Spiderman 4, in that it's green lit, everything is in order, even a poster is made, and then it just never happens

Yeah, and Han Solo has nothing to do with Star Wars. Just cut the bullshit and say it's all an origin story from where the Aliens came from and connect it with Ripley.

If that's the case it would be preferable to retroactively retitle Prometheus as Alien: Prometheus, though frankly that would be a weird thing to do. Unless we're headed into full-on Xenomorph territory which, let's face it, is the connecting element to the Alien films, they'd really be better off calling it something else. Still, I'll be happy to watch it whatever they call it.
