RIP Apple co-founder Steve Jobs

Oct. 5, 2011by: Dave Davis

Ingenious tech titan Steve Jobs has passed away at age 56.

The Apple co-founder, the visionary behind the company's omnipresent innovative creations that are now his legacy, succumbed to a long illness just six weeks after stepping down as CEO.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the company said in a statement. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Jobs also co-founded the revolutionary Pixar animation studio, the massive success of which inevitably led to him becoming the single largest shareholder of Disney stocks and joining the Disney Board of Directors.

Regardless of whether you're a Mac or a PC, Jobs left an undeniable and enduring impact on consumers, media, culture, business and technology.

*Sigh*

I did a huge write-up just now about Jobs and the computer industry, but it did not save it here. Instead, being that this is a movie site, everyone here should go rent/buy/watch the documentary, "Triumph Of The Nerds", to get an idea of the early careers of Jobs, Wozniak, and Gates. It's definitely a great watch if you're into computers and/or the industry.

Here's the Rotten Tomatoes link....

Fuck him! Under Steve Jobs' leadership Apple made it a standard business practice to destroy small companies while stealing their ideas and products.

All Apple have ever done is take existing technology, slap a minimalist case around it and sell it to people who don't know any better.

Steve Jobs never donated a penny of his billions to charity.

All he should be remembered for was for being an awesome salesman. Not a genius. Not an innovator. certainly not an inventor.

Even if you're right, it doesn't change the fact that he did what he did. If the smaller companies couldn't sell their invention and Mr.Jobs could, that in itself takes a certain level of marketing genius. In the logic of Mr.Facebook, "If you were the inventors of the iPhone, you would have invented the iPhone."

and dispute them i shall:

first of all, Apple is a company, therefore it must make money, and big companies buying out small ones is not a new thing, so, Apple is no different than all other big companies out there...

second, just so you know, inventing is not everything, you must make it practical and sellable, for instance, the first Mac OS with a graphic environment was not an Apple invention, but they used an OS that the people who created it would not give it any use, so you see, even if

third, Apple donated trough the Red Product iPods, so, charity wise, Apple was covered

and finally, i don´t see you attacking Microsoft or Bill Gates, Microsoft, if you don´t know, copied Apple´s OS, and shipped it as if they invented it, so, if you want to call someone a thief, try the Microsoft and Bill Gates, and Bill Gates never gave anything to anyone before he created his foundation, so, try and get your facts straight before you come here and slander a person´s reputation.

He was a man that gave two great gifts to the world: He made excited over technology with Apple and he made us laugh and cry through Pixar. Truly a great loss not as an inventor, but as an entertainer as well.

RIP Steve Jobs

today the world woke up at a loss, we all lost a great man, a visionary...
my best goes out to his family and friends, the ones that are really hurting with this right now. i wish you are strong in this time of grief, and take comfort in the fact that you who knew him best, were fortunate enough to be a part of his life.

Actually, you're wrong. The first Apple wasn't even the Macintosh, it was the Apple II. The very first personal computer was the Altair 8800. It didn't even have a moniter. Here's the link... [link]

Jobs

I will miss him and his influence greatly. I'm happy that he was with his family when he passed and I pray it was a peaceful death.

I'm also glad they were able to keep his illness a private matter in his final years/days so he was able to live them out properly (out of the spotlight) with his family.

With that said, I'm more excited than ever to read the tell-all 'Steve Jobs' book by Isaacson in November.

For me, the saddest part of his death is the YOUNG AGE at which he passed. I know he likely lived a more "fulfilling" life that many humans will ever experience, but imagine if he had lived another 20-30-40 years? That said, just like anyone else who passes, we should consider ourselves lucky that he lived as long as he did and contributed to our technological advancements as he did. Thanks for everything, Steve. You inspired MILLIONS!

This Changes Everything

I heard Heaven uses PCs and runs on Windows. I guess that's all about to change now.

RIP, Mr. Jobs. I hope he passed peacefully knowing he lived a good life and left his mark on the world, literally changing the way we see and use technology.

There is no denying that Apple is one of the best American companies of the 21st century based on their innovation and sales, and Jobs was a significant part of that success. Best wishes to his friends and family.

Long live the king...

A genius, a visionary and a caring man. He loved what he did and we should all be so lucky. He's given us gifts we couldn't possibly imagine. Sleep well Steve. :(
And we also lost amazing actor Charles Napier today as well at 75 years old. RIP Charles!

Although I'm not much of Apple product user, I have to admit that people around the world has changed the way they live with lots of advantage from Apple products. Rest in peace, Mr. Jobs. The world mourns for you.
