R.I.P. Dracula & LOTR actor Sir Christopher Lee (1922-2015)

06.11.2015

The Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson Christopher Lee

Legendary British actor Sir Christopher Lee has passed away at the age of 93. Lee died Sunday morning while being treated for respiratory problems and heart failure at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. The announcement was delayed because the actor's wife of over 50 years wanted to inform family members first of his passing.

Christopher Lee was best known for appearing in nine films (ten if you count his uncredited role in ONE MORE TIME) as Count Dracula for Hammer Films, portraying Saruman in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies, and Count Dooku from the Star Wars prequels. The actor's other big screen credits include the original THE WICKER MAN, the ninth Bond film THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, and the Tim Burton-directed films SLEEPY HOLLOW, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, ALICE IN WONDERLAND and DARK SHADOWS.

The actor was also a World War II veteran serving in the Royal Air Force, and a classically trained singer. Lee sang on the soundtrack for THE WICKER MAN, and released two heavy metal albums; 2010's Charlemagne By the Sword and the Cross and 2013's Charlemagne: The Omens of Death.

R.I.P. Christopher Lee. You will be missed but not forgotten.

As it's been said numerous times, the man was (and will always be) a legend. He was one of those actors whose work was so prolific and long-lasting that you just assumed he would never die.

Thanks for the memories, Mr. Lee. You will be sorely missed.

There will never be another like him.

Most screen credits. Tallest leading man (until Vince Vaughn). Most films with a sword fight by an actor. Oldest video-game actor. Most connected actor.

And of course, he had the most awesome voice. What a career. What an actor. What a gentleman. Rest in peace, Sir!

RIP to one of the few honest Legends out there. Glad we got so much of him over the years, and he never turned his back on the genre films that made his career and established his fandom.

Gonna re-watch the original Wicker Man

He was excellent in it. I strongly suggest the uncut (British) version if you can find it.
RIP Sir Christopher. You entertained us, and that is a good thing in a world that is far too serious.

R,I,P, Sir Christopher Lee

one of the greatest screen villains of all time. His presence added menace and gravitas to even the most atrocious movies. And when a movie was worthy of his considerable talents, look out!

I couldn't imagine anyone else as Saruman, Dracula, or many of the other brilliant villains he portrayed throughout his career. A true badass in every sense of the word (you have to admire someone who put out a heavy metal album in his 90's!), you will be missed, and your memorable performances will

Wow, that really sucks. He was a genuine movie icon. I remember him saying something about being in more movies than any other actor, and looking at his IMDb page, I might just agree. RIP.

Say what you want about the prequels but I can think of no one else I'd rather see in a lightsaber duel with Yoda

So sad. Legendary actor... his performances had such gravity to them, and his portrayal of Saruman still haunts me to this day. RIP Mr. Lee.

Well this certainly sucks. Christopher Lee certainly lived a long and productive life but this type of announcement always comes too soon for such a legend. My favorite films he made are The Wicker Man and the many films he did for Hammer Studios. RIP Mr. Lee - you certainly made millions of people happier during your incredible career.

I'm happy for him, having lived so long and accomplished so much. But boy, this is a hell of a blow to the rest of the world. RIP, Sir.

It's a tremendous loss, but he leaves behind a treasure trove of pop culture goodness.
