R.I.P: Paul Newman | Movie News
Yep, we just got the news that Paul Newman has died at the age of 83. He passed away at his farmhouse near Westport surrounded by close family and friends, after a long fight with cancer.
Well, this is just great. Death seems to be going all out this year, claiming some of the best, coolest people we have. And Paul Newman was definitely one of them. Even just sitting there having the camera pan around to him, his entries to scenes were incredible. He had so much f*cking presence. The only way he could have made more of an impact would have been to parachute in with a bunch of spec ops mercenaries in his wake.
And even in the twilight of his career he was badass. I'm just a kid so I didn't grow up with the guy, but films like THE COLOR OF MONEY showed me exactly the kind of man I want to be when I'm older (that film earned him his 1st Oscar). The man's humanitarianism will also remain a big part of his legacy, as he started Newman's Own, a food company from which he donated profits to charities (close to $200 million since the company's inception in 1982). He was also married to the same wonderful woman for 50 years (in Hollywood, that's like 212 years) and was survived by three children.
Anyway, you guys are really great at paying your respects, so go ahead and do it better than me below, or head on over to CNN for a long obit column, videos, photos and everything else this man's deserves in his passing. Rest in peace, sir.

Newman was not only very talented, but he was a very decent human being. He's someone I think everyone can be inspired by. I believe that people who are serious to become actors should aspire to be like Paul Newman, in that they don't get caught up in all that celebrity bullshit, do...

I always was impressed with Newman's ability to dominate the screen and yet never fall into the typical celebrity asshole trappings. And how admirable is it that every dollar...
I always was impressed with Newman's ability to dominate the screen and yet never fall into the typical celebrity asshole trappings. And how admirable is it that every dollar of profit made by his Newman's Own brand(the BEST salsa and popcorn BTW) all went to charity.
As for as his acting ability, he goes right up there with the greats. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the Hustler, Cool Hand Luke, The Verdict, the Color of Money and Road to Perdition. Just a few to name, and all classics. And cant believe I only recently saw Slap Shot. Without question of the greatest sports movies ever made, and made me laugh so hard it hurt after a while.
What can you say. He was the man.
