Rob Liefeld doesn't think Cable will appear in X-Men: Apocalypse

Jun. 2, 2014by: Alex Maidy

With X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST a hit both critically and at the box office, the future of Fox's Marvel mutant properties turns to both X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and the in development X-FORCE movies. One key character between those two storylines is fan favorite Cable. But, creator Rob Liefeld posted some comments on Twitter regarding where he thinks the silver-haired mutant will appear.

Now, despite holding a historical place as a comics writer and creator, Liefeld is not in the know regarding X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, so this could be entirely in his own mind, but he does say that when the follow-up to DAYS OF FUTURE PAST was announced, it threw all of Fox's plans for the X-MEN franchise into disarray. Does that mean that the X-FORCE movie was affected by the existence of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE? That remains unclear, but Liefeld did say this:

Cable plays a very important role in the Age of Apocalypse storyline in X-Men lore, but that doesn't mean he will appear in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE versus X-FORCE. He could appear in one or the other, or if X-FORCE gets made first, he could appear in both. What sort of connection is being built between the two movie franchises is unknown.

Currently, X-FORCE is being written by KICK-ASS 2's Jeff Wadlow while X-MEN: APOCALYPSE has a release date of May 27, 2016.

Extra Tidbit: Who does Liefeld see playing Cable? He chooses Tom Hardy or Jon Hamm.

ugh

Rob Liefeld's art is the worst. Not just his art, but the gravitational pull it had, where other artists were pushed to draw like him. There's exaggeration and artistic interpretation, but this guy literally doesn't understand the basics of the human form and proportions. He should be kept as far away from this project as possible.

Rob Liefeld art is hideous but until some one that is actually working on this movie comments on Cable there`s still hope he`s in it.Hell, they could have Cable and introduce Hope Summers and BOOM there`s your next X men movie plus return of the phoenix for it .But most of all Rob Liefeld art is f-cking atrocious.

As far as the tidbit goes...

I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'll say for all eternity... Jon Hamm would make a kick ass super hero. I hope he doesn't play Cable because I would just love to see him play a Bruce Timm type Batman or Superman.

what was so great about DoFP, anyways?

it was mediocre. even though the 1970's sentinels were totally unnecessary... i still accepted them expecting to see Wolverine shred one up. oh, then they specifically had a scene where that does NOT happen. jerks.

Unleash the Phoenix!

Seeing how Apocalypse is practically unstoppable, I think it might be bad-ass to have Jean Grey turn back into the Phoenix to take him on!

If you have Apocalypse, you've got to have Cable. I'd say Stephen Lang of Avatar for Cable.

Before reading the tidbit I immediately thought of Tom Hardy for Cable...
If they wanted to go older I also though that Stephen Lang could be a good cable.

Well if you don't have cable, you can always see it on Netflix...
Okay, bad joke aside Cable's future appearance was already ruined when Cyclops were killed off in X-3. DoFP actually fixed that but the main question is which incarnation of the team will fight Apocalypse and how will they find the plot connection to Nathan Summers? I really wish that they will recast Cyclops and Jean with younger actors as the main X-Men team for this Apocalypse movie. Reboot Angel from X-3 to appear with the younger team as well, or maybe even revive the female Angel from First Class (who actually looks more similar in appearance to Pixie from the comics) into this version of Archangel.
Also, it should be set in the '90s and everybody is wearing a lot of pockets in their costumes.

I'd love to see Cable on the big screen, but how are you gonna describe his origins when it was Apocalypse that took him from Cyclops and Jean, when he was a baby, into the future and he grew up there??? And his metal arm, Apocalypse gave him that. So why would he not be in it?! Oh well, another character they will do no justice for, just like Bishop in DoFP

Very Old Man Logan

Sequel opens hundreds of years in future where White haired Logan cannot dodge attack in time and is saved by a now adult Cable. Logan smiles and cannot believe how strong he got. Credits are used to showcase Logan age though the centuries and baby's eventual cure with cybernetics and being raised and trained by Old Man Logan. Legacy War needs to be stopped in the past so with actual temporal tech Logan gives some advice on what it will be like and gives him enough time to go back to stop

Legacy War needs to be stopped in the past so with actual temporal tech Logan gives some advice on what it will be like and gives him enough time to go back to stop Legacy Virus. Cable helps whatever roster desired in a 90s era to stop this plague with the help of Mystique's and Logan's DNA. Dramatic moments with parents and hilarious interactions with Logan. At end Cable cannot return to future and goes off to found X-Force with a govt contact named Alex Summers. Cable having extensive knowledge of mutants pulls up dossiers on Sunspot and Warpath and a third dossier that he cringes and throws in the trash. That dossier is on a masked figure named Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool. Would have shown other dossiers but that allows for proper casting of additional members.

Godfather Logan

If the focus is First class aged actors (maybe 80s for apocolypse) with the audience unsure of present day universe events and wanting to insert Wolverine wherever possible ... Open Apocalypse with Xavier and Logan having a mind meld to catch him up on the major news (could be any of hundreds of Easter eggs) but the main ones being no dark phoenix, no mutant cure and the birth of Nate Grey. With Logan surprised to realize he is a godfather to the toddler. Too good to be true, so Xavier shows

With Logan surprised to realize he is a godfather to the toddler. Too good to be true, so Xavier shows him the not so good. We flashback through Logan's mind to the 80s. Apocalypse title screen ... stuff happens ... horsemen defeated (Ink shown 3 different times in DOFP is Pestilence) and Apocalypse is mortally wounded / hibernates but not before taking Pestilence altered DNA to create a weapon. Upon waking he delivers a "gift" to Xavier. Jean opens the package instead as Xavier and Logan are finishing up their session / flashback. Its an object that references something of Xavier's battle and the first person to touch it is the toddler with a small blotch appearing. Roll credits post scene is desperately trying to save toddler with the only option being for Iceman to put the toddler into a cryostasis and maintained by Mansion tech. Wolverine vows to protect Nate until a cure can be found.

Who gives a shit what Rob Liefield thinks? He's not involved in production or writing the story. Why is his assumptions being written about in an article?

Here's a scoop for ya, my brother thinks X-Men Apocalypse.....will be good!! You heard it here first folks!

Ratnerized parentage

To become a Grey-Summers offspring it helps to have a Grey and Summers alive long enough to conceive(ably) have a son. CHECK. Baby Nate Grey (possibly already born in new timeline) + introduction of Apocalypse (pending) + creation of Legacy Virus (unknown) + infection (TBD) + cryostasis (time travel mcguffin out for at least one movie) for 400 years? + awakening (sequel) + disarming virus (haha) + growing up at war + travel back to stop virus.

I would like to see X-Men: Apocalypse introduce Cable as a big, vital character in this considering he is a huge part of the storyline. Stephen Lang would be perfect casting for the character and would bring much depth and charisma to the role.

I'm also excited to finally see Gambit re-introduced in this film as well. It would be nice to maybe see Deadpool somehow in this film donning the red and black suit with his swords and guns.

Doesn't surprise me, Cable's origins are quite confusing and strange, they don't want any more weird time travel plots after Days of Future Past.
