Rob Zombie and Bret Easton Ellis team up for TV series on the Manson Family

02.28.2014

I wouldn't say Rob Zombie is a "fan" of Charles Manson, but he did sample a Mason family member's voice for one of his songs, and has the Manson X carved in his head when performing with his band. Clearly Zombie was inspired just a little bit by Charles Manson, and now he'll be directing a television series involving the Manson family.

The Wrap is reporting Rob Zombie and American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction author Bret Easton Ellis will team up for a possible new event series for FOX. The series will focus on different characters, leading up to the grisly murders ordered by Charles Manson and carried out by his family members in 1969. The project is still in the very early stages of development though, so things could always change. Ellis will write the script for the series, and he'll also be executive producing with Rob Zombie.

This is the second musician to recently join forces with the Bret Easton Ellis. Earlierr this month we learned the novelist is also working on a new project for Kanye West.

A series on the Manson family is definitely in Rob Zombie's wheelhouse, and while some absolutely hate his films, I think he's more hit-or-miss. I haven't seen THE LORDS OF SALEM yet, however I did enjoy HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and THE DEVILS REJECTS. His HALLOWEEN movies though? Yeah, I don't want to talk about those.

People have always been fascinated with Charles Manson and his family, and I could see a new series about them doing very well on television. It'll be interesting to see how Rob Zombie handles the material, and hopefully his f*cking wife won't appear in the series. Look, I'm sure you love Sheri Moon with all your heart Mr. Zombie, but you must know she's not a great actress, right?

Can't stand Zombie, but I'm thinking that the involvement of Ellis & Fox will result in a product that looks nothing like Zombie's films as suggested in comments below. Might actually be decent or even good. Too bad I'm just not interested . . .

Horrible idea

Smart money says this is just gonna deliberately be grindhouse like trash.

There are so many movies that have exploited the Sharon Tate killings.

I rather they re-adapt the Helter Skelter book and take a realistic look at the Mansion Family. I just can't see this being nothing more than a 70's b-movie homage like everything else that Rob Zombie has done.

I like Zombie quite a bit.

He is definitely hit or miss though. House of 1000 Corpses was a good horror movie that knew exactly what it was, and a great first if you ask me. Devils Rejects is perfect. The first Halloween, probably one of maybe two horror remakes that I actually love. H2, not great. Lords of Salem, great visuals, but a very predictable movie. I'm ok with this, with the exception of it being on Fox. I feel like cable TV is going to constrain him too much. Zombie is like Aronofsky. He is just going

He is just going to be doing his best when he is unchained and allowed to do his own thing. Netflix should have picked this up instead, given him a modest budget, and said "Go do your thing, you creepy fuck".

Zombie has the subject matter and visuals down, I've just always had a problem with his writing. Hopefully with Ellis writing Zombie can strut his on the directing end

You seriously compared Zombie to Aronofsky? Not in the same ballpark dude. Your reason is weak. What director wouldn't do better when "unchained"??

Probably Michael Bay or Brett Ratner. Also, Chris Nolan seems to play well with the studios and still put out solid movies. Your argument is weaker kreizler.

Yeah Great. Give this narcisstic deranged monster/loser a new wave of attention after he has finally (thankfully) become almost forgotten. He thrives on that.
