Robert Downey Jr. might be leaving Gravity

The days of Robert Downey Jr. as co-pilot to Sandra Bullock in Alfonso Cuaron’s GRAVITY may be numbered.

Early on Downey decided to sign up for the film because he was a big fan of Cuaron. So the actor planned on juggling some things around in order to do the project. At first, he was going to shoot GRAVITY then work on SHERLOCK HOLMES 2. This was until the lead actress drama came along. When Natalie Portman dropped out and no one was filling in for her, Downey thought it might be best to move on since he did have other films to attend to.

Warner Bros. are saying that Downey won’t exit, but Deadline is hearing a different story. The studio plans on working out the scheduling problems, but haven’t had a lot of luck rounding up Downey since he has been doing press junkets for DUE DATE. What can you do? The guy is just really busy.

The delays are still on going. Sandra Bullock hasn’t even been locked on for the lead. Even though Deadline is reporting that she has the part.

The part that Downey signed up for is not a big one. The lead female role is the dominant one. The film centers on, “a space station team member hellbent on finding her way back to earth and her daughter, after the station is destroyed by a debris field from an exploded asteroid.” Basically they could throw any big actor into the role, but Downey is the one they want. Everyone is trying to get him to stay on, even Bullock.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
