Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's Sin City: A Dame To Kill For pushed to 2014

06.17.2013

Well, shit.

Looks like our hopes of seeing Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's long-awaited sequel to SIN CITY just got a little crushed. SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL for was originally set to follow Rodriguez's other sequel MACHETE KILLS (out September 13th) on October 4, 2013, but has now been pushed back nearly an entire year, with its new debut set for August 22, 2014. No specifics for the delay have been released as of yet, but you have to wonder if Rodriguez having two of his films come out only weeks apart wasn't a shaky idea to begin with.

You'll all remember that last year a similar thing happened to G.I. JOE: RETALIATION, when it's release was pushed back nearly a year for the purpose of making it 3D. Could it be possible that SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is undergoing the same 3D treatment? We'll have to wait until we hear an official statement to know for sure, but for the time being you can scratch SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR off your fall schedule and settle in for a longer wait.

Damn. Here's a picture of Eva Green to help assuage this crappy news:

Well, it was pretty obvious. With Machete opening a few weeks early than this, and without any teaser or pics, I see it coming!

I personally would have dumped a MACHETE sequel to get this done instead.

This sucks, I was hoping for this movie to just simply come out so there's no more waiting, but oh well. Gives time for some tweaking.

Not surprised at all

The movie was supposed to come out in four months and we haven't seen a trailer or even a still. That tells me that Rodriguez has his hands full with Machete and won't be able to pull it off. That's understandable, two effect driven movies coming around the same time is a lot of work. Another factor is that no hype has been created since no marketing campaign has even started to create any buzz. If it came out on October, it would probably flop and kill the rest of the franchise.

I thought it was always the plan to make it 3D.

Maybe Rodriguez wants to shoot all the books now and get it over with. He has said he wanted to do that when the first one came out. That way, he can release them over a period of time but all the footage is in the can. It would save everyone the trouble of re-assembling the cast years from now.

My fave of the books is "Family Values" I hope this is the reason, because I'd love to see that book make it to the screen. Plus the psychedelic freak-out in "Hell and Back". Still, I sure

That's never good news

Delays of that magnitude always mean bad things - be it a disastrous production, or suits who've gotten cold feet - and the results on the other side nearly always suffer. At this point, I'd rather hear them say it's cancelled.

C'mon...What The Fuck!

Rodriguez is just taunting us fanboys like that old-ass fisherman from the State Farm commercial.

"I got ya' a sequel... [news breaks that "Dame To Kill For" is delayed] Oooh, you almost had it...you gotta be quicker than that!"

I'm starting to think this movie will never be released.

In fact - delay it another 50 years

First one pretty much sucked so I am not excited for this film. Some of the visuals were cool, but that story is horrible!

Bah

I kind of expected one of the two films to get delayed/pushed back when I found out he was doing Machete Kills in the same year, but didn't expect that much of a push-back. Regardless, as long as Eva Green (or any other major cast members) hasn't dropped out as a result, I can wait a bit longer. I was interested to begin with since it was "announced" eight years ago, but I thought they nailed it with her being cast.

And I respect you, Mr. Rodriguez, but for the love of everything holy, the

And I respect you, Mr. Rodriguez, but for the love of everything holy, the delay better not be an excuse to use this film to fuck around with 3D/4D bullshit that you've experimented with in your other movies. That would kill my interest as much as Eva Green piqued it.

Well I didn't remember it was coming out this year anyway. I was about to ask why they weren't releasing it in April like the last one, but that might conflict with the March opening of the 300 sequel.

This I dont mind, now I know they're not trying to rush things so maybe we can get something awesome in the end. Hell we've waited this long.

Good luck - has RR made anything even remotely good? His best film was easily Predators and luckily he didn't direct that or it may have turned out quite different.

@ShonK: Desperado, From Dusk Til Dawn, The Faculty, Spy Kids, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, Sin City, Planet Terror, Predators. So, to answer your question, yes, he's made some good movies. And Predators isn't even in the top five of his best.

Wasn't that 300 sequel also pushed back to 2014 recently? Both sequels to Frank Miller books. Both star Eva Green. Very strange.

I've waited this long: I can wait a while longer. Just glad it's getting made!

It's going to be an end of summer release? That sucks. I think the October release is much more appropriate.

Next thing you know, this thing gets pushed back "for an imdefinite time". This is definitely the "Duke Nukem Forever" of movies.

Can't say I'm surprised. I won't believe this movie is real until I'm sitting in a theater.
