Robert Rodriguez is moving forward with Machete Kills

Feb. 6, 2012by: Niki Stephens

I remember when it was announced that MACHETE was going from fake movie trailer to full-fledged film, I was excited. It had some pretty major hype generating before it was released and then managed to deflate after opening weekend. I remember so many complaints being centered around the fact that it was "too hyped" and did not meet expectations. Personally, I thought it was a fun film.

For those who enjoyed it for what it was, Robert Rodriguez is working with producer Alexander Rodnyansky on the sequel, MACHETE KILLS. Production is due to start in April.

This crazy adventure will follow Machete who is, "recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy."

Rodriguez had this to stay about Machete, The fan response to the Machete character has been fanatical since his first appearance. Machete is truly a super hero and Machete Kills will be bigger and more ambitious than the first time.

Extra Tidbit: Are you looking forward to a sequel?

I was hyped after watching the Machete trailer in Grindhouse, but the more I saw of the feature-length film, the less I gave a shit. I don't really even care if a sequel exists or not.

more gore & tits!

Danny Trejo probably knew how stupid the movie was and basically decided to sleep walk-through it which is exactly what made it work (for me at least).
As for a sequel to work it better not take itself seriously but at the same time not be over-the-top, but since the Machete character is like a low-rent version of Jason Statham, I guess it wouldn't matter.

I had some information on Machete earlier. Just found it. I had filed it under "who gives a fuck?"

Robert Rodriguez is entirely irrelevant. He rode Tarantino's early 90's indie wake into people thinking he was an auteur, but it was never the case. He was always C list at best. Hope we can get another Spy Kids. So fresh. He is a poor man's Michael Bay. Lots of tits, lots of explosions, lots of shitty dialog.

Poor man's Bay? You know Rodriguez uses sex and violence ironically right? First of all, RR is in a league of his own. Does he always make the best movies? No. But name me another director that not only writes, produces, scores, edits, and animates his own flicks in his OWN FUCKING studio and I'll shut up. The dude is a trailblazer to say the least, and if you can't recognize his contribution to modern cinemas, then you're a jackass.

Honestly, I hate chiming in on these type of things but Double R brought me Sin City and for that I and all of us for that matter should be eternally greatful.

in all honesty

I was pretty damn disappointed with the first one. It had it's moments but it missed the mark a lot I felt... at the same time, I'm still strangely really looking forward to a sequel, hopefully they can iron out all the weak points from the first!

I Love Rodriguez, But Machete Sucked!!!

I Love Rodriguez, But Machete Sucked! It was his worse movie ever. Only bad movie really, the inspiration behind was a trailer, making the film hollow.

I'm there!

I really enjoyed Machete: I thought it was by far the best of the Grindhouse movies and I'm very much looking forward to a sequel.

re Sin City 2: between Rodriguez's hassles with the DGA and the fact that Frank Miller is batshit crazy, I'm not surprised a Sin City 2 is taking a long time to come together.

Ron Perlman needs to be in this one.. it doesn't matter if he is a serial killer janitor! The Perlman-Trejo joint in Sons of Anarchy put the show on awesome level times 3!

Machete...in space?

I remember reading an article on here about Rodriguez thinking about putting Machete in space. The plot here sounds like it MAY be leaning in that direction and to be perfectly honest....

.....it's just ridiculous enough to work. The more B-Movie machete gets, the better, in my opinion. It did grow from Grindhouse after all.

Here's the thing about Sin City 2. all the good stories from the books were put in the first one, so even if they make it, it's bound to disappoint. That coupled with the fact that Frank Miller has clearly lost his mind and forgot his roots in the last decade, which is why I suspect Rodriguez hired an outside writer to clean up the script.

i liked the first movie thought it was fun .. rodriguez doesn't own sin city like he does machete and the spy kid movies or I'm sure he would have made sin city 2 by now

Saw the first one drunk in theaters, will be seeing this drunk in theaters.

First one had its moments, but fell flat in my opinion. The Steven Segal death scene was so bad it was funny. And how about an actual nude Jessica Alba instead of CGI nude Alba.

Its for the best. the first one does not hold up anymore and is actually pretty campy. And honestly they never pulled off the white/black contrast that the books are known for and its pretty much a black and white movie, nothing more. If they could get it looking like 2066's Renaissance then i'd be there for sure. I know it was animated and not live action but that is what a Sin City movie should look like.
