Robert Rodriguez says Sin City 2 has financing and almost a script

08.09.2011

I thought that SIN CITY 2 was just going to be one of those announced sequels lost to the wind, but it appears that at long last the project is finally shaping up and is in fact moving forward.

Robert Rodriguez spoke to We Got This Covered where he gave an update on the project:

"Sin City 2 is going good, we’re just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it’s the same thing for Machete 2. We’ve already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we’re finished writing we get to start the shoot."

That sounds pretty imminent, and hopefully SIN CITY comes before MACHETE, although I imagine it would be a little harder to write.

The new film focuses again on three stories, including the "A Dame to Kill" chapter of the original book, and the other two are original stories being written for the film by Frank Miller. The film is said to be shooting in 3D, and from the sound of it, might start pretty soon.

What do you want to see out of the sequel?

Extra Tidbit: The original is still Jessica Alba's best movie as it actually REQUIRED overacting. And hotness. Obviously hotness.

Oh cool....

... Sin City 2 is moving forward for the 17th time now. Can't wait. Maybe by the 35th time it'll actually get made or something.

It could be good, but...

Rodriguez doesn't do sequels well, though he's made a great many. He's at his best when he's exploring fresh territory. Sequels are too restrictive for his creative process.

'Two original stories from the mind of Frank Miller' makes me cringe. For the past decade he's been in perpetual creative decline into self-parody. Dark Knight Strikes Again, All-Star Batman & Robin, The Spirit (an utterly unwatchable film, not even worth Eva Mendes' bare butt) and so on and

Never say never, but I'm more interested in what new ideas Rodriguez has kicking around underneath his cowboy hat.

Anyone else think the time has passed for Sin City 2? Frank Miller went from pretty awesome to crazy crap. Robert Rodriguez moved on to better things. There's going to be two new stories in it. And now it's going to be in 3D?

It just doesn't sound like the sequel to one of the more awesome comic book movies besides the '2' in the title. It just sounds like that new generic movie on the horizon we always hear about each week.

"Rodriguez has moved on to better things." What things would these be? Ever since Sin City his movies have been horrific. Just like his movies before Sin City.

I'm a fan of Grindhouse, Machete, and Predators (I know he didn't direct it). But that's what I mean.

Don't you need a script first to get a budget?

I'm just saying...
But hell yes I want to see this happen.

I've been ambivalent ever since the rumor went around Mickey Rourke wasn't gonna be in it. I'm not thrilled by the original stories, either, but "A Dame to Kill For" is arguably my favorite book in the series. And it needs Marv in it. And a Tucker.

The two original stories thing worries me. Frank Miller latest stuff has been incredibly lame (The Dark Knight Strikes again, All Star Batman & Robin, The Spirit).

My only trepidation for this picture is (and I really hate saying this) Miller's original chapters. I only hope its "Sin City" Miller and not "The Spirit" Miller writing.

Lol...

I'll believe it when I see it. He's been saying the same thing for 6 years.
