Robin Finds Men

6 years agoby:
Ridley Scott's ROBIN HOOD has finally found its Merry Men. Already boasting the epic star power of Russell Crowe as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian, Scott cast actors who will be unfamiliar to mainstream audiences as his Merry Men--thereby allowing his two stars to shine.

"ER's" Scott Grimes will play the skilled swordsman Will Scarlet; "Lost's" Kevin Durand will play Robin Hood's right hand man Little John, and the lead singer of Great Big Sea (wtf!?!?) Alan Doyle will play Alan A Dayle, a roving minstrel who needed help when his love was being forced to marry another man. For those of you unfamiliar with Great Big Sea, they're a popular Canadian band from The Maritimes, known for their sea shanties and Celtic folk tunes. Aside from the similarity in his own name to his character's name, I can only assume that Doylewas cast to contribute some musical numbers to the film. I personally am not a fan of his band so this news kind of bums me out, but Ridley's a legendary director for a reason, and I can do nothing but trust the man. Don't betray my trust Ridley, or I shall be forced to sleep with your wife.
Extra Tidbit: I still think Cary Elwes is the best Robin Hood ever.

Funny thing, me and my bro were talking about this Great Big Sea guy (the third dude) the other day...very random LOL

Ha!

Alan Doyle and Russell Crowe have been friends for a few years. There was a lot of media here in Newfoundland a few years back when Russell Crowe came to visit and played a show with Great Big Sea. Apparenlty Doyle's mother even had Crowe over for dinner one night.

Russell Crowe in Tights?

Yikes, the way the Crowester has been packing on the lard, I think he'd be much better as Friar Tuck.
Let's hope his singing buddy can cut back on the Newfie accent, otherwise we're gonna need subtitles (Lard luuv hus, hain't dat de trut?).
I like Ridley's work most of the time, same goes for Cate's,but I have a bad feeling about this one.

Kevin Durand is awesome, he was crazy in Smokin' Aces and played a great bad guy on LOST.

RIGHT!

What? Only one person liked Kevin Costners version? Ha! Ha! Yeah Ridley don't screw the pooch on this one or I might have to pound your daughter. I don't know who K. Durand is but if Ridley trusts him then so do I.......for now.

Kevin Durand has the potential to become great. I hope he really breaks through with this thing.

Though I have kind of given up on Ridley Scott ever making anything as good as his promise led everyone to believe.

Always ready to be surprised, though.

Alan Doyle?!

I'm assuming Russel Crowe got Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea that part due to some musical collaberations or something of the like they were doing a few years go. I recall hearing he accompanied Great Big Sea on a show they did in St. John's, NL a while back. Horrible idea never the less.

I must be....

The only one who still likes Kevin Costner's "Robin Hood" and the Disney "Robin Hood" but even those two can't capture the brilliance of "Men in Tights" and Errol Flynn's "Robin Hood."

Greatest Robin Hood -- Errol Flynn

Good lord, I hope you were joking about Cary Elwes. He was perfect in Princess Bride, but nobody has ever outdone Errol Flynn's Robin Hood.

Now then, on to this movie...I like the musician playing a musician, especially since the genre of music won't be much of a stretch for him to play. The rest of the cast is pretty good, though if you follow the origin story of Little John, he should be quite a bit larger than Kevin Durand.

Looking forward to this...every Robin Hood movie since

Hmm...

Seems groovy to me so far. Robin Hood is a pretty reliable old tale that manages to draw countless generations in.
