Robocop gets dramatic in the latest trailer for Jose Padilha's film starring Joel Kinnaman

11.20.2013

Another trailer for ROBOCOP has been released, featuring some brand new footage. The first part is a little emotional, and involves Alex Murphy's (Joel Kinnaman) transformation into the superhuman cyborg law enforcer, but there's also some great looking previously unseen action scenes in this latest look at the film.

"It's not a suit: it's you."

Synopsis:

In the year 2028 multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

There's a part of me that still isn't too thrilled about a ROBOCOP remake, but for the most part, what I've seen of the new film looks solid. It might not have the satirical humor or the level of violence that was in the original, however I do think Jose Padilha's film could still be a very fun ride.

ROBOCOP also stars Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jay Baruchel and Samuel L. Jackson, and will be released on February 12th, 2014.

The previous trailer was much better. I still have hopes this film will surprise us by not being a complete train wreck.

Robocrap

This looks terrible again...it lacks so much material...ya know it would be a better movie if it was a sequel of sorts..where the police department decided to re-open the RoboCop project and a new cop was selected...but this remake lacks a lot from the orginal...its sad.

I might give it a chance

I really enjoy Jose Padilla's Elite Squad movies. Those are top notch action movies and I really want him to succeed so people can see his talent. But I don't know if RoboCop is gonna do it for him.

Look, I've only seen small bits of the original, so as a person with no attachment to the original, I have to say this trailer was pretty good. That being said, I totally understand WHY the movie is getting so much backlash. Creativity is basically all but dead

Wasnt sold on the first or second trailer and this has pretty much confirmed that this movie looks awful, I mean talk about trying to make robocop look like the CGI Neo, how the f**k does a machine that probably ways about a ton jump around like ant man? It just looks so shitty and I still think it looks cheap as if it was filmed for straight to DVD in mind.

Oh boo hoo! Will it be better than the original? Hell no!! But this doesn't look all that bad. It certainly looks better than a straight to DVD film. Quit crying. The OG isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

another CG-PALOOZA EXTRAVAGANZA. Jesus guys, can't you make a decent movie without relying on goddamn cg effects?

Did you guys notice...

...how in the last trailer, they modified the "Dead or alive..." bit of dialogue to sound exactly like the old RoboCop/Peter Weller, but in this new trailer, they play it the way it probably sounds in the actual movie...which is to say, it's just Joel Kinneman's normal voice. Also, Alex immediately remembering his family as soon as he wakes up as RoboCop pretty much negates much of what made the original film so engaging on a human level, as it's about a man re-programmed as a machine who

It pondered themes about what it means to be human.

This new one opts instead for shots of CGI RoboCop jumping on the back of CGI robots and tackling them to the ground. This film is gonna suck.

It does look slick and Kinnaman does seem to be trying hard, but I'm still not sold on the idea that it is a car bomb that nearly kills (or briefly, actually kills) Murphy. It just seems to lack all the impact that the brutal "crucifixion" from the original had.

So far the only thing I'm disappointed about the new RoboCop is that Murphy doesn't look like his memory got wiped out like the original, thus giving Murphy in the original a sense of Ghost in the Machine to wake up and find out he's lost everything. However, the action scenes look great and I'm going to give this movie a try.
