Rodriguez racks nerves

02.17.2009

We first heard about something called NERVERACKERS a few weeks back when a release date of April 16, 2010 was slipped, along with the director: Robert Rodriguez.

The official announcement of the project has finally surfaced, with RR indeed taking the reins of the sci-fi flick for his longtime home at Dimension. The synopsis for the movie (which Rodriguez is also writing): "Set in 2085, the story centers on a character named Joe Tezca who is part of an elite unit dispatched to quell a crime wave in a theoretically perfect future society."

Rodriguez has been keeping busy producing RED SONJA (and doing whatever your imagination fabricates with star/squeeze Rose McGowan), but all those other projects he's supposedly been developing or considering (SIN CITY 2, MACHETE, MADMAN, BARBARELLA, THE JETSONS, a possible PREDATOR sequel, etc.) are apparently being pushed aside for the moment.

Extra Tidbit: For a guy who seemed to rip through a movie in a month, Rodriguez has certainly been taking his time lately...

I dig Rodriguez stuff though.

Rodriguez never fails to entertain me so i look forward to this one. Plus i always enjoy the special features he does like the film school and cooking school.

I still like Rodriguez. He certainly has done better movies than a lot of crap put out these days. Really fun stuff since El Mariachi and up to today with Planet Terror.

I just hope he can bring himself to get a little more focused on 1 project and stick to it (And BTW, I'd like that to be either Sin City 2 or Machete please)

Gosh, I never knew there was so much hatred for Rodriguez. I can see how some of his movies wouldn't be for everyone, but they sure are a helluva lot better than most of the crap that's shelled out these days.

Now, for one I'm stoked because he hasn't directed a flick since PLANET TERROR (the better of the GRINDHOUSE flicks). On the other hand, I second the likes of writer19 and Canto. I really wish he'd just make SIN CITY 2 already.

Style over Substance

Beyond his "El Mariachi" trilogy and occasional collaborations with QT, I'm beginning to think this guy is more admirable for his drive, and efficiency, than for his film quality. "Sin City" was such a stylized effort, and so meticulously adapted, it barely counts as his film so much as he was the guy who finally decided that a film could, would, and should be made. But unlike some contemporaries, the man is either distracted, or so drained for ideas that he has amassed a bunch of possible

FOR THE RECORD...

I made an observation, not a criticism.

And the writers of this site are not a hive mind.

worth the wait...

anything roberto makes will be worth the wait. sin city 2 is in pre-production, with rourke "rumoured" to be back as marv. sin city 3 has already got michael clarke duncan signed on. these are in the works.

all these other projects he's attached to, rumoured or not, are all good, so i'll take whatever he decides to do first, as i'm a fan of his films anyway.

and i agree, its taking longer than usual for a release...more success = more studio involvement?

Extra tidbit...

is that criticism targeted at one of the golden children of this site, Robert Rodriguez? Oh my.

This looks like a terrible movie in my opinion.
