Rogen joins Paul

May. 27, 2009by: Mike Sampson

We've been hearing dribs and drabs of intel on the next film from Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, PAUL, for some time but things are finally starting to heat up. Seth Rogen has signed on to voice the title character, an alien two sci-fi geeks encounter on a road trip, while Jason Bateman, Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader and Jane Lynch also join the cast. Director Greg Mottola has brought back some familiar faces after working with Rogen on SUPERBAD and Hader and Wiig on ADVENTURELAND.

I have the script here and I haven't finished it yet but by page 2, the action is already at geek headquarters: San Diego Comic-Con (maybe if you're lucky, you'll be in the background...). By page 3, they're prepping to meet Michael Biehn and are speaking in Klingon. Could this be the geek movie to end all geek movies? With this cast and the respective track records of Pegg, Frost and Mottola, it's certainly shaping up to be one funny flick.

Extra Tidbit: There are plenty of roles still left to cast and one potentially major cameo so stay tuned for more...

What the fuck did I miss? You're all sick of Rogen and co. already? They only put out the funniest movies in Hollywood hands down.

Sorry guys, but they're not going anywhere for a while.

Sounds neat. I only wish Edgar Wright was directing this but Greg Mottola is a definitely a solid director so I'm game for it.

Have to admit seeing all the same people in movies or on TV together makes me yearn for new or different talent. Having said that, I am looking forward to this, and both Pegg and Frost, while the stars, are not known as part of the old Apatow/Mottola/Lorne Michaels/The Office crew. So there is that.
