Romancing remake

12.04.2008

ROMANCING THE STONE Buckle up, kids, another remake is coming your way. For whatever reason, Fox has decided to remake the 1984 Robert Zemeckis directed ROMANCING THE STONE in which Michael Douglas starred as a soldier of fortune who helps romance novelist Kathleen Turner find her lost sister in Columbia. The movie made a star out of both leads as well as Danny DeVito and it's pretty damn fun in its own right so who knows why the hell Fox thinks it's ripe for remaking. They're looking to EAGLE EYE scribe Daniel McDermott to pen the adventures of some hot young mancake and his red hot hottie romantic interest. Anybody wanna throw out some candidates? Sam Worthington? Megan Fox? How bout we make Douglas' character female and re-team Rachael Taylor and Fox? Yeah? Anybody?

Extra Tidbit: McDermott is also working on a remake of SOYLENT GREEN.

::sigh::

Another classic; perfect as it is; not dated or obsolete; and they want to remake it. What pathetic losers.

What made this movie work was the actors. It's a character based movie. It gave us De Vito. The story is fine, but it doesn't matter all that much. So a remake misses the point.

first they live, now this?!

Why can't they remake bad movies and try to make them great? Instead of remaking They Live or Romancing the Stone - just let it run in theaters again! I'd pay for that!

WTF!

Why are they even considering f***ing with this classic? The original was bad a$$! What is going on with all these remakes? Has the "original idea" concept died? Can't anyone in Follywood write an original story anymore? Man this is a bad idea. Sorry if no one agrees. They better get Devito back in the remake that's all I'm saying. Why not go straight to porn and name it "Romancing the Bone"? Anyone?

You know the old saying "The 3rd time's the charm"? Well, here's my question: When will we get to see the remakes of all the remakes? Or the re-re-imaginings of the re-imaginings? I'm officially sold on the thought that there is no originality left in the world. What's next? Citizen Kane? The Godfather? How about Gone With the Wind? Or better yet The Wizard of Oz. It's only been 8 years since Gladiator was released, time for it to be remade. And The Lord of the Rings trilogy? WAY past it's

Hollywood does not understand the magic of its own medium. Movies, especially good ones, are timeless.

It's fine to take ideas, concepts, or particular formulas from great films from the past and create something new and fresh from that, but stop shooting fucking remakes!

I agree, Mathew Mc You know who would be perfect to play this character.

BTW, this film dont need to be remade, the original is freaking perfect. Its like an indy film, but with comedy and romance thrown in the mix.

No. Just ... no! Goddammit, there's only so much a guy can take! The original is SUCH a classic film, and there's no way this can possibly top it, and ... and ... gaaahhh! Why do they torture us so?!?

No Need...

Matthew McConaughey will want this.

And aliens will come to our planet one day after we've all died off and wonder why our race made every movie ever made TWICE.

Not only no, but Hell no. The original is great and to remake it would be an insult to Robert Zemeckis cast and crew.

Whats next? Rodger Rabbit with photo realistic CGI characters instead of cartoons?

OH oh oh I know... Lets Remake Forrest Gump! Yeah that'll be a hit with the audience. After all they reallllly love that one!

Didn't McConahewhatever and Hudson star in a "remake" of this. Something about golden abs...?

And to remake Soylent Green is a truly horrible idea. I have no problem with remaking a romantic comedy, even if it is a watchable one like Romancing the Stone (mainly because El Guapo from The Three Amigos makes an appearance), but films that are relevant don't need to be remade. They retain their relevance. To remake a film that made a social commentary would not only cheapen the original film but

I for one like remakes but for the love of god, remake stuff that needs to be remade like old classics and good film concepts that were poorly carried out but don't go remaking recent films that were well done to begin with.

Remake, what a four letter word that is lately. Screw submitting new leads. Bring back Michael Douglas and have Shia Lebouf be his son!!!! Woooo! I hate you, Hollywood. And how do you remake Soylent Green? Let's remake Star Wars!
