Ron Perlman talks Conan the Barbarian, At the Mountains of Madness, and Hellboy 3
While Ron Perlman's been doing the press rounds for SEASON OF THE WITCH in recent days, the burly "Sons of Anarchy" star took the time to let us in on some info regarding a few of his upcoming/potential projects: CONAN THE BARBARIAN, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS, and HELLBOY 3.
While speaking to the Examiner, Perlman revealed a little about his role of 'Corin' in Marcus Nispel's CONAN relaunch:
"I play Conanís father. Thereís big-time sword action. But Iím only in the movie for 10 minutes. I canít tell everything, but the first sequence is huge. Itís epic. All I can tell you is that I work with the Conan whoís 11 years old. And thereís a jump cut to Conan the adult, and Iím no longer on the scene. I donít want to give away anything."
Blog io9, meanwhile, was able to get some additional information out of the actor regarding his potential role in Guillermo del Toro's long-awaited H.P. Lovecraft adaptation, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. As previously reported, his taking of the role (specifically written for him by Del Toro) is contingent on the scheduling between it and his FX series "Sons of Anarchy":
"The movie takes place in the North Pole, and so Iím on board as this sort of dog sled dude. I spend my entire life with these dogs. So Iím a rough guy, among all these scientists. Iím a contrast to the deeply intellectual world thatís being explored. I live outside all the time, I live in the elements. Iím a no-bullshit kind of guy in a world of guys who just live in their heads. So itís a beautiful role to play, given that backdrop. I kick some butt I hope we get a chance to do it."
Perlman then got into HELLBOY 3, talking about some of the ideas that would be tackled in the sequel - a sequel that at the moment is nothing more than talk:
"The only thing I can share with you is we have this demon who is a victim of this Oracle, which is not negotiable. Heís been summoned to the Earth for the destruction of mankind, and thatís non-negotiable. This whole notion that his nature, is the demon of destruction ó against the way heís been nurtured by his father, John Hurtís character, to be kind and in the service of mankind. Those things are going to be in play in the third one. Then of course you have Liz pregnant with twins at the end of the second film. So you donít know what those two offspring are going to be? Are they going to be more human? Are they going to be more demon? Are they going to be a combination of the two? And how is that going to play out, in terms of Hellboyís destiny. Which I say again is non-negotiable. So thatís the backdrop for the third film. And everything will be resolved, all these open-ended questions will finally be resolved. I donít know how, he didnít give me those details. But thatís the backdrop for it."
|Extra Tidbit:||Del Toro's first feature CRONOS (with an appearance from SeŮor Perlman) has got itself a pretty nice Criterion now (it's also on Netflix Instant). Be sure to check it out!|
