Ron Perlman tries to sell you some edible Kaiju organs in this viral video for Pacific Rim

Now we know what happens with those massive Kaiju corpses littering the world.

Ron Perlman‘s character in PACIFIC RIM has always intrigued me. This being the fifth collaboration between Perlman and director Guillermo Del Toro, I figured whatever he was going to do was going to be fun and worth the screen time. This new viral video cements that theory.

Perlman is playing Hannibal Chau, a black market dealer in Kaiju organs. He proclaims their medicinal value for curing all sorts of ailments. This video is a look at the lighter side of PACIFIC RIM and also reminds me of the propaganda clips from STARSHIP TROOPERS.

Guillermo Del Toro had this to say about the character of Hannibal Chau:

“I think the moment you have a guy that is called Hannibal Chau and Ron shows up, and he’s from Brooklyn and he’s been selling black market organs, you know the whole story… That’s all I need to know. If it’s any other actor, there’s a lot more explaining to do. But when Ron comes in with that look, you can make your own story and it’ll be as compelling as anything I can invent. You do a little weightlifting with the audience.”

Perlman himself has said he is playing this character as very close to his real persona with some added tweaks. You can see his trademark earring in the clip, but I am pretty sure the grill is just for the character.

PACIFIC RIM opens July 12, 2013.
