Ronda Rousey and Tina Fey to star in Do Nothing Bitches for Universal

01.15.2016

There are plenty of classic partnerships throughout the history of comedy, Abbott and Costello, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, David Spade and Chris Farley, as well as many others, but we may be on the verge of witnessing the beginnings of the next great comedy team of our generation. Deadline reports that Universal has paid a high six-figures for a script from SISTERS scribe Paula Pell by the name of DO NOTHING BITCHES which will pair Tina Fey up with, wait for it, Ronda Rousey.

There's no official logline just yet, but Deadline hears that DO NOTHING BITCHES will be "a female-empowerment tale dealing with wealthy pampered wives who get a rude awakening at a camp where Rousey plays the no-nonsense instructor." The title and concept for the film originated from a video Ronda Rousey made last summer in which she described “Do Nothing Bitches” as women who “just try to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else.” Rousey is definitely trying to make a name for herself in Hollywood; just this past year she appeared in FURIOUS 7 and ENTOURAGE, and she already has several films lined up in which she'll be taking on a leading role, including a remake of ROAD HOUSE and a biopic based upon her own life where she'll be playing herself. How often does that happen?

While Ronda Rousey's filmography isn't all that large at the moment, I haven't exactly been won over by her acting ability. Perhaps Tina Fey will be able to help hone Rousey's comedic chops.

Extra Tidbit: And that title will be changing in three, two, one...

Stop... trying to make Rousey happen as an actress Hollywood. This sounds terrible.

extra tidbit: Yeah that title won't last. What could you change it to though?

This could be good, but it will definitely depend on what other female actors they get to be in it besides Fey. Off the top of my head I say Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Poehler, Charlize Theron, Zooey Deschanel, or Betty White could be good choices.

I won't downvote this.....

because I just don't care either way. However, I am disappointed that Rousey isn't spending her time getting ready for her comeback fight. I still think she could be the best fighter in her weight class, but she's delaying her next fight because of Roadhouse, now she's going to be in another crap movie? Her appeal is that she's fairly attractive for a fighter, and that she's a great fighter. If after a one-sided loss she stops taking fighting seriously, then her entire career crumbles

I hate to see her take the easy route (unless she's decided she can't be the best so is looking for an exit).

Meh. I'd watch Tina Fey and Ronda Rousey on a female buddy cop movie, though. Yeeess... an all white all female Ride Along movie. :D

Male MMA fighter appear in movies and try their hand at acting all the time and they never get shit for it. I wasn't impressed with her performance in Fast and Furious, but then again that whole movie was a joke. All I'm saying is, give her a chance. She's a very determined person and will likely do well with what ever she does.

Lost me at 'female empowerment tale'. I like the idea of women carving out a more significant role for themselves in Hollywood, it's more than long overdue, but when you start your log-line like that it just makes the whole thing so friggin' transparent. I'd like to have been in the meeting where they started the pitch as 'a female empowerment tale' and not just... you know... what the story was about...

Crazy thought, but there are actual working actresses out there that could use the work.

Ronda Rousey is a fixture of pop culture, a figure that transcends her sport and if she wants to be in a movie, she gets to be in a movie. I think she deserves it considering how hard she's worked to get where she is. Besides... like you're chomping at the bit to go see this movie if they casted somebody else.

*cast.

She's worked hard at fighting, not acting, so no, she doesn't deserve to be in a movie over hard-working actors.

Stupid argument. Just because you identify yourself as an 'actor' doesn't mean you should get dibs on roles over other entertainers who are arguably at the top of the creative team's wish list. Besides, most hard-working actors are bad actors, way worse than Ronda Rousey. I understand that you were really excited to see this movie and I'm sorry Ronda Rousey's inclusion is making you have second thoughts.

Stop making Rousey happen, Hollywood. I respect her as a fighter, but not at what she calls 'acting'.

Ugh. I really kind of hoped her big loss to Holly Holm would have put her acting career to bed. Tina Fey is so much better than this.
