Room's Jacob Tremblay joins the cast of Shane Black's Predator

Production on Shane Black's THE PREDATOR is gearing up to begin shooting next month, and another member of the cast has been revealed. It wouldn't be a Shane Black affair without a child character who's smarter than everyone else, and that character will be portrayed by Jacob Tremblay (ROOM). According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tremblay will play the son of Boyd Holbrook's character, an ex-Marine who discovers the existence of fierce aliens but finds that no one believes they exist. Evidently, Tremblay's character will be autistic and, in turn, become a key player due to his preternatural ability to learn languages.

Well, it worked for THE ACCOUNTANT, I guess.

Tremblay joins an ensemble that (so far) includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Keegan Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes and possibly Thomas Jane. As much as I trust Black's judgment in his story and cast, the idea of this autistic kid "fighting" a Predator looks really cringe-worthy on paper. I know THE ACCOUNTING received some unwanted attention due to it's portrayal of autistic people, so we'll see how THE PREDATOR fares.

THE PREDATOR is scheduled to open in theaters on February 9, 2018.

Anybody who is complaining about a child in a movie about killer Aliens obviously has never seen... Well... ALIENS.

Ya, but in that case there was a reason for a kid to be in the story. Here it's likely it will just be another Shane Black plot element, and by that I mean something he tosses in for the hell of it, like all his recent films.

Not a Shane Black movie without an annoying smartass little kid.

So that's the kind of Predator movie we are getting. I thought it was a Sequel to the Original Sci-Fi Arnold and Glover movies.
I guess now that they cast a child it'll be base on a Child Predator.

Seriously, What the hell does a kid have to do with Predator?!

Maybe some Predators like to eat kids. Same way humans enjoy eating baby cows.

I might be one of the only ones worried that Black has completely lost it with this film. Not really liking the casting outside the possible, but unconfirmed, involvement of Tom Jane and the rumors of the suburban setting are also off-putting. Now we've cast a kid playing the role of a character with autism? One has to wonder what this is all adding up to, if anything at all besides total incoherence. I won't know for sure until I have more to go on, but I'm not hyped or impressed so far.

No I said it on the last casting news with Keegan Michael Key. I really don't like the plot details of numerous predators in suburbia equipped with funny men and a gifted autistic boy. Just not the route I was hoping for on this film. I wanted another Expendable type badass list of dudes facing off against a single predator in a remote location like the mountains Cliffhanger style. Much like what made the first an instant classic and one of my favorites. This was tailor made for the Rock,

Then bring in Arnold as grizzled team leader Dutch who knows this time what lies ahead.

Yeah he is going to need those skills to inform the group after interpreting their language, that the Predators are hostile and are only there to kill for sport! Lame.

Groan

I hope the "kid hero" aspect isn't a major part of this story. The overly smart daughter in The Nice Guys totally ruined that movie for me. Still want to be excited for this, Thomas Jane helps me keep the faith.

I think the daughter was the best part. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling both played crazy characters, so the girl was the voice of sanity to react to insanity. It's not a new approach to comedy.

You get a little angry when you dont eat

Unless he's offering the predator a Snickers bar then im not excited about his involvement.

Oh no, please let it be Old School "Lethal Weapon" Shane Black directing this and not the guy who did "IM3" and "Nice Guys". I donīt need slapstick and supersmart, trashtalking Kids in a Predator flick.

"I donÂīt need slapstick and supersmart, trashtalking Kids in a Predator flick."

Tough luck man, that's all Shane Black does these days.

Nice Guys is a good movie. I really enjoyed it. Also, I don't see much change in styles from now and then. His earlier films had a lot of humor and slapstick. Those movies were not directed by him, so that resulted in a different interpretation of his words.
