Ruffalo finds Brother

100%

Mark Ruffalo has signed on to round out the cast of Rian Johnson's upcoming heist flick THE BROTHERS BLOOM. Ruffalo joins Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz and Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi (BABEL). The film will star Brody and Ruffalo as the titular brothers who are scheming to rip-off a wealthy woman (Weisz), but as you might expect, things don't go according to play. Kikuchi plays a deaf Japanese woman working with the Blooms. Filming begins next month on BLOOM, which will be fully financed by Endgame Entertainment (PROOF, HOTEL RWANDA) with a US distributor coming after filming wraps. BLOOM could be a great heist flick but that got me thinking, what is the best heist flick? RESERVOIR DOGS? HEAT? DOG DAY AFTERNOON? Feel free to weigh in with your thoughts below. Ruffalo can be seen next month in David Fincher's serial killer study ZODIAC and later this year in Spike Jonze's WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE.

Extra Tidbit: Ruffalo was originally cast in Joaquin Phoenix's role in SIGNS but was forced to drop out due to a brain tumor.

Nought Like it

I think heist flicks are one of the best genres for films. I think it suits the format perfectly with the right blend of characters you've never met before and exciting plot driven 2 hours. Obviously only if done well.

I don't know if its the best, but I really liked Inside Man. A really enjoyable couple of hours.

Rinko Kikuchi's next role is going to be another deaf girl? I was hoping she would expand her horizons a little more and try something new... Don't get me wrong, she was INCREDIBLE in Babel, but I was expecting her to do something totally different.

Not a heist flick

First off it's not a heist flick... they (the Brothers) are not robbing a bank... they're conning a woman... so the best of these types of films is definitely THE STING... hands down... but this movie might come close... I have all the confidence in the world that Rian will deliver an instant classic... much like BRICK

Good question

As far as heist movies I think my vote would have to go with Heat. Even though I prefer Reservoir Dogs I never really think of it as a heist movie cause the movie isn't reall about the actual heist that much. Where as Heat is great cause they focus in on the before, the during, and the after and not to mention both sides of the story. And plus you have Bobby DeNiro and Al Pacino... so it has that going for it.

The greatest heist movie is Screwed with Norm MacDonald, which this movie sounds kind of like.

Just kidding.
