Rumor: Are these the films that will comprise Marvel’s Phase Three?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

A source told us last week that one of the guaranteed Phase Three films from Marvel would be a sequel to GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. The source is reputable, but another site is claiming their insider info is just as reliable. So, what do they think about our source’s intel?

They call it bullshit. Claiming that GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is not only a one-off film but that no sequel is in development, the source at SchmoesKnow also says Marvel is trying to shy away from making sequels for individual characters and rather more standalone films introducing new superheroes. With that in mind, what do they claim will be Phase Three?

There has been talk about Black Panther and lots of talk about The Inhumans, they’re in the pipeline but are pretty much in the same boat that Dr. Strange and Ant-Man were in two years ago, where they want them to happen, and they will most likely both happen, but it’s just a question of how soon. However, those five films (ANT-MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA 3, THOR 3, DOCTOR STRANGE, and AVENGERS 3) are sure things and I can guarantee you they will all be announced at Comic Con if not sooner.

It seemed that CAPTAIN AMERICA and THOR were locks to wrap up their trilogies while DOCTOR STRANGE seemed like a safe assumption. But, the lack of BLACK PANTHER or GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 seems a little fishy. At this point, though, anything is possible. I would find it very hard to believe that Marvel would not bank on a sequel to GUARDIANS if it is a hit this summer, but stranger things have happened.

What seems to be for certain is that Marvel will likely make an announcement either at this or next year’s San Diego Comic Con to confirm the line-up for Phase Three. Until then, everything is conjecture.

The rest of Phase Two will be the following: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER opens April 4, 2014, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens August 1, 2014, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON opens May 1, 2015. Phase Three begins when ANT-MAN opens July 17, 2015
