Rumor Buster: Jurassic Park 4 not filming at Universal Studios

01.10.2011

The internetz were abuzz this weekend when a tourist took a photo of the "Shooting Schedule" posted at Universal Studios and set it to theme park website Behind the Thrills. Under yesterday's schedule were "Parenthood" and "Desperate Housewives" was a curious listing for JURASSIC PARK 4 on Stages 7, 10, 12 and 14. ZOMG does this mean a JURASSIC PARK 4 is already filming?! Yeah, no.

Universal has confirmed that JURASSIC PARK 4 is not filming on the backlot nor is JURASSIC PARK 4 anywhere near shooting. Last we heard Joe Johnston was attached to direct and he's quite busy at the moment with CAPTAIN AMERICA. No cast is involved and there's no crew. Perhaps just some small pre-production meetings every now and again while a script is developed.

So exactly what was the chalkboard? Universal hasn't commented but it could be a clever Photoshop job or just a goofball tour guide having fun with the turistas. Just know that for better or worse there is no new JURASSIC PARK on the way anytime soon.

Extra Tidbit: I wandered onto the "Desperate Housewives" set one day and hung around in the kitchen.

Can I just throw it out there? Dinosaurs. In. The. City. Like, all of them. Loose. =Badass (I know there was no equation there but that IS what it equals)

While I do think there might be a good story for another sequel (just 1), I'm afraid it could also become the alien vs. predator of the Jurassic Park franchise. Sadly I don't think any of the original cast has a desire to do another (even goldblum, where is that guy?), which means I'm not to thrilled about a sequel. RIP Pete Posthewaite, I always hoped your character might turn up again in a sequel.

If you give a mouse a Jurassic park sequel, He'll want Spielberg to direct, not Johnston.

Fine line

JP 1 is my all time favorite movie, and aside from a couple continuity errors I loved the Lost World too. The script about mercenary dinos for the 4th is absurd. No one in their right minds could think that is a good direction for the franchise.

If it is going to work I always liked the idea of 25 years later InGen finally got their shit together and are reopening Jurassic Park...the grand opening includes a panel or something w/ Neil, Dern, Goldblum, Vaughn, etc. You get to see the park

Not sure how it would play out, but I've always liked that basic plot.

I love the idea of revisiting Isla Nublar (from the first movie), but I don't think Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler or Ian Malcolm would set foot on that island again for all the money in the world.

I feel like if the film established the park was safe and secure enough, somehow, they could conceivably get the original crew back. The trick would be having a breakdown that isn't an exact repeat of the first one. Somehow all the tourists present could spice it up or something...

I'm always down for more dinosaurs, but I need to hear the plot and the people involved before I can get behind a possible fourth JURASSIC PARK. I mean, the last script they had involved genetically-enhanced mercenary dinosaurs who could talk and fire weapons.

Seriously.

Just out of interest, why has CGI got worse instead of better? JP still holds up now and the effects are still better than most other movies, look at Jackson's King Kong, some of the effects in that were ropey as hell.

I think Speilberg just knew its limitations at the time. He worked it til everything looked perfect. Then CGI blew up and everybody just tried to crank the stuff out as fast as possible.

I didn't think JP3 was all that bad. it was a 90 minute quick thing, it knew what it was and delivered a simple, harmless movie. It has been 10 years, so in this day and age of franchise reboots and all, JP4 will absolutely happen. Let's just hope they do a good job.

I'm all for another. There were some parts of Speilberg's 2nd that were as dumb, if not dumber, than Johnston's 3rd. We've seen dinos on land and in the air. It's aquatic time, baby!!!

i'll only settle for a jp with neill, goldblum, durn, and even vince vaughn.. directed by speilberg of course. if thats not the case DONT MAKE THIS MOVIE. JP 1 is one of my favorite movies of all time and shouldnt just be made just for the effects it may bring to the table.

BiggerBoat hit it right on the head. Sure Winston is a legend and is sorely missed but he is not the only one who could pull this off. He had a whole company of people who helped him and continue to do good work. Plus there are other practical effects artists out there who can do just as good as a job.

Need mroe dinos

I'm all for JP4 if they ever decide to make it. As long as they get a good team behind it who actually care about the original. I always liked the plot idea of the dinos making their way to civilized land and wreaking havoc.

I would open the film with a huge dinosaur, possibly one we've never seen before, emerge from the waters near a big city and lay waste to it. This convinces InGen to send a military group to the Islands to release a virus among the dinosaurs to wipe them out for good.

This convinces InGen to send a military group to the Islands to release a virus among the dinosaurs to wipe them out for good. But John Hammon (is he still alive?) gets a group of scientists including Dr. Grant and Ian Malcolm to go there and try to stop them. When there they discover that the dinos are evolving into types of dinosaurs that never existed before.

That's just one possible way to do it and I thought it up in like five minutes. So hopefully the studio knows what they are doing. Maybe we could get JJ Abrams to direct? He's a huge fan of Spielberg so I'm sure he would love to do it.

As much as I love Jurassic Park, I think a 4th one would be overkill. How many times does it take for those people to realize that going back to a island filled with man-eating dinosaurs is a horrendously suicidal idea!

I would love to see one more Jurassic Park movie, since the third one was kind of a letdown (but did have some redeeming qualities in introducing the Taradactile(sp)?).

I would want to have one more great Jurasic Park movie with a majority of the old cast back (i.e. Neill, Goldblum, etc.) and to give this franchise a better ending that we did with number three.

As I think about it, the original is really one of the greatest movies ever.

Even though it came out almost twenty years ago, when that Rex comes out for the first time in JP, from then on, all the animals look frighten-ly real. Whatever they did then, shouldn't have been changed in the CGI-used movies since!

I really hope they don't replace every last dinosaur with CGI. Part of what made the original so cool was the use of animatronics throughout the series.
