Rumor: Carrie Fisher may be filming Star Wars: Episode VII for six months

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It really sucks that every time we write up a story about STAR WARS: EPISODE VII that we need to add the word rumor in front of it. I am adding it as a precaution this time but this sounds like legit information since it is coming from Jim Jeffries, star of FX's LEGIT. See what I did there?

Carrie Fisher will be guest starring on LEGIT this season and Jeffries shared a little tidbit of knowledge he learned about her still unannounced role in STAR WARS: EPISODE VII.

She’s a funny lady, man. She’ll be smoking cigarettes outside and as soon as she gets inside, she’s straight on to the vapor. She’s had some fucking hard partying in her life, I tell ya….She said to me, she goes, “I’m going off to London for six months to film the new ‘Star Wars’ movie,” right? And I don’t think from looking at it, the new ‘Star Wars’ movie is a direct continuation. It’s number 7 but it’s not going to be the next day, I’ll tell you that much. Maybe she had the same problem the Emperor had, I don’t know.

Carrie Fisher has not been shy about her involvement with STAR WARS: EPISODE VII despite no official announcement from the studio regarding her involvement. I would highly doubt that Fisher would be back without Mark Hamill or Harrison Ford, so I would expect to hear something official sooner rather than later. The interesting thing here is that her filming will be a six month commitment. While a project as huge as STAR WARS: EPISODE VII can take as long as six months or longer, this should also serve as a rough indicator that Fisher’s role will not be a mere cameo.

There have been rumors that J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan taking over writing duties on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII had to do with the desire to increase the screen time and story involvement from the original trilogy stars. This definitely serves as a good indicator that the Skywalker clan will not only be the primary focus but that both generations will be prominently featured. Here’s hoping we get official news soon. The movie is slated to begin production shortly.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is slated to open December 18, 2015.
