Rumor: Chris Hemsworth offered lead role in Lethal Weapon reboot

There aren't many details at this point, but it appears LETHAL WEAPON might be getting a reboot, and the rumor is Chris Hemsworth has been offered the lead role in the film. Sources have told The Tracking Board it won't be a full reboot though, and "the recent version of the script centers on the desires of an older cop’s son (presumably Riggs’) and his wishes to join the police force."

Joel Silver will produce the reboot, and Justin Lin (FAST & FURIOUS) is apparently attached to direct from a script being developed by Will Beall (GANGSTER SQUAD). It's also rumored Shane Black, creator of the original characters, will also be working on the reboot.

Since it won't be a complete reboot, there's still a chance some of the actors from the original films could appear in the new movie, especially if it's going to involve Rigg's son.

I'm not totally against a LETHAL WEAPON reboot, but it doesn't fill me with a warm, happy feeling either. My biggest concern is if Warner Bros. and the producers will want the film to be PG-13 so they'll be able to make as much money as possible at the box office. We've seen it happen with the TERMINATOR and DIE HARD franchises, and I wouldn't be too surprised if we end up getting a new LETHAL WEAPON flick without any balls.

I think Chris Hemsworth would be great as Rigg's son, but I do wonder what Warner Bros. and the producers' plans are for the reboot. If the rumor is true, hopefully more information on the reboot will be revealed soon.

Are you interested in a LETHAL WEAPON reboot, and what are your thoughts on Chris Hemsworth possibly playing Martin Rigg's son?
