Rumor: Details on Harrison Ford's multi-picture deal for Star Wars

Oct. 28, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

Some of you may get very excited about this news because it involves Harrison Ford returning for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII and another Indiana Jones movie, but remember this is just a rumor at this point.

Jedi News has an interesting report on the details for Harrison Ford's return to the Star Wars universe, and apparently the actor has signed a multi-picture deal. What Ford is really interested in though, is playing Indiana Jones again. According to their report, he didn't get a commitment for Indy, but did reach an agreement where an outline for another film will be created by the end of 2014.

A verbal agreement with Ford to play Han Solo once more has been in principle place since before the Disney deal. Over the course of this summer financial settlements were reached. The outstanding points that had dragged on but are now resolved are:

Ford wanted to see the synopsis for his character's development over more than just Episode 7. He saw this in August and is happy with the story arc.

Ford wanted a commitment to Indy 5. He did not get this as there is no plot line or script in place. What did happen was an agreement was made wherein an outline would be developed by the end of calendar year 2014, and if all parties can agree to it moving forward, efforts would be made to move on Indy 5 for release before the end of 2016.

Disney wanted a multi film deal with Ford which transcends Episode 7. This has now been agreed.

It sounds like Disney used Harrison Ford's love for Indiana Jones to get him to commit to the new Star Wars films. Earlier in the month it sounded like Ford wasn't sure if he was coming back or not for STAR WARS: EPISODE VII, but he did express interest in playing Dr. Jones again, so there is a chance the report could be true. But once again, this is just a rumor, and I'm not going to 100% believe anything Star Wars related unless it's an official announcement from the studio.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII should be in theaters sometime in 2015.

Extra Tidbit: Which would you rather see: Harrison Ford back as Han Solo or another Indiana Jones adventure?

Personally I'm happy with just Star Wars Episode 1-6. I'd rather watch Ford as Indiana Jones.

Slam dunk! Very hip to this.

Now, just lock Larry Kasdan down to come up with an idea for Indy V, and we will get the sequel we were hoping for in 2008!

I think that while I'd personally prefer to see more Indiana Jones films, Harrison Ford being in more Star Wars movies might work better for him in that he'll most likely be playing a supporting role instead of having to carry it all by himself. There were lots of people who mocked the notion of Indy still being an action hero well into his 60s or 70s, and I guess Han Solo can get away with being a badass without having to be too physical. Just saw Ender's Game; Harrison Ford was actually

Just saw Ender's Game; Harrison Ford was actually pretty good in it. Yes, he does his trademark scowling and being grumpy, but he also brings some layers to the character who is an authority figure with a manipulative streak.

I'll say this much, if Ford does come back for another Indiana Jones, I hope they come at it from the perspective of trying to get right what the last film got wrong. Make Indiana Jones the primary focus of the film. Build the story around what stunts a man of Ford's age is able to pull off; don't make his age a joke. Keep the computer effects to an absolute minimum; go back to the style of film-making that made the first film hold up for as long as it has. It's not impossible to make another

I agree 100%. I don't hate Indy 4 but I recognize the problems. Keep the focus on Ford completely, that's who we're paying to see, not his son who we have no connection with and I also say to possibly kill off Marion, not necessarily on-screen but maybe she got sick or something. I want the Indiana of the first 3 films where if there's a female lead, she's also a love interest. And yes, use as many practical effects as possible and forget the old man jokes. Indiana Jones is like Arnold and

Indiana Jones is like Arnold and Stallone, it doesn't matter how old they are, they're badass. You have to wonder though if Spielberg will be involved at all. At this stage it sounds like he's not.

If i have to choose...Indy...

why Indy? cuz i care less for Indy than i do Star Wars. I really dont want to see Han So-Old at all in VII. In fact, the only character i would like back is Lando. Luke, Leia and Han are not only too old for me to enjoy as viable adventure characters, it seems too formulaic. Whoever's kids they end up being, Han's or Luke's, they find Lando, "an old friend of my Father'', who can help them once. ONCE. smuggle them thru enemy territory, procure something they need.....but, after than....no need

Interesting

As far as I'm concerned, he can do as many Indiana Jones movies as he likes. I'm not a fan of Crystal Skull, but I still think he has at least one more good Indy flick in him. The Star Wars news is interesting though. I thought he'd only show up in Episode VII long enough to let the kids borrow the Millennium Falcon, so it's interesting that he may play a bigger role in that. There's also that Han Solo standalone movie they've been talking about. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if

It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Disney attempts to digitally de-age Ford like they did with Jeff Bridges in Tron Legacy. Maybe the technology has improved since Tron. If they absolutely have to do a Solo standalone, that would be better than recasting. Still, I think they should just stick with Boba Fett and Yoda for standalone movies.
