Rumor du jour: Are Xenomorphs and the Space Jockey actually appearing in Prometheus?

So when Ridley Scott issued this statement a couple of weeks ago about his original sci-fi tale PROMETHEUS…

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

…was he purposely being misleading?

According to Sky Movies, it would appear so. The film website says that a source in the know is claiming that not only are H.R. Giger’s iconic aliens appearing in the film, they’re also “integral” to the plot.

“They’ve built the ‘space jockey’ cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien.”

“Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently.”

That sounds like hell of a lot more than just “Alien’s DNA”. But wait, Sky Movies touches on that very bit too:

“Part of the film will be shot in Morocco. I’ve heard that some sort of archaeological dig where they discover alien DNA takes place there and that DNA gives them the coordinates for an alien world. I’ve also heard Morocco is being used for alien planet landscapes so I’m not sure if it’s an archaeological dig on another planet.”

I’m calling bullshit on Sky Movies’ report. Their “source” gets too detailed with the DNA bit, something that I really don’t think was ever meant to be taken literally (Scott even says “so to speak”). But again, it’s just a rumor and it’s worth throwing out there to get your reactions. I was really down on the idea of an ALIEN prequel. But the instant it turned into PROMETHEUS, with all the cool things Scott and writer Damon Lindelof had to say about it, it got me really excited. All this would seem to be like spitting on the very things Lindelof and Scott said they were so happy to be doing in the first place. Frankly, the report just doesn’t make sense.

Unless, of course, Scott and Lindelof are big fat liars like Kevin Smith…

Thanks to “Alberto” for the heads up!
