Rumor: Green Lantern reboot may focus on more than one Green Lantern

06.23.2015

We're still five years away from 2020, which is when Warner Bros. will finally debut their second attempt at bringing Green Lantern to the big screen, but it's never too early to start speculating. One of the frequent topics of discussion regarding GREEN LANTERN is just who will be slipping on the ring this time around. Both Hal Jordan and John Stewart have been rumoured to be taking on the mantle of Green Lantern, but now Collider is reporting that we might not have to settle for just one main Green Lantern; we could be getting several all at once.

Keep in mind that this is just a rumour and that there's plenty of time for this to change, but apparently Warner Bros. would like Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and Guy Gardner to all appear in the upcoming GREEN LANTERN reboot. The franchise will apparently never focus on just one Green Lantern, but will constantly focus on several Green Lanterns at once. As the Green Lantern Corps is chock full of members, this could be the perfect way to keep the public from getting bored with just one Green Lantern over the course of what will most likely be numerous films.

Collider also speculates that Warner Bros. may reveal one or more of their Green Lanterns at Comic-Con, which kicks off on July 9th. It's also likely that we won't have to wait until 2020 to see our new Green Lantern(s), as JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART ONE and JUSTICE LEAGUE: PART TWO will probably serve as our introduction to one or more of the Lanterns. Growing up, Green Lantern was one of my favourite superheroes so I desperately want Warner Bros. to finally get this character right once his solo film drops on June 19, 2020.

Should this news pan out, would you open to having multiple Green Lanterns taking focus as opposed to just one?

If this was a Marvel announcement there would be no negative comments. Just about everything people have bitched about regarding Batman V Superman could be said about any Marvel movie. Everything Marvel announces is instantly praised. I mean really, couldn't we say that Civil War isn't really a Cap movie? More like a third Avengers movie. But there's far from too many characters in that.

Not sure on this one. I think the concept of Green Lantern needs to be introduced into this world before you jump right into a full on Green Lantern Corps movie. I think it would be smart to do a Green Lantern movie featuring John Stewart and Guy Gardner. Through the course of event, they recruit Kyle Raynor and then moving forward all movies focus on those four as the Green Lanterns.

It's a movie about space cops. Pretty simple concept. I kinda feel it's as easy as introducing other Federation ships in a first Star Trek movie.

This...is a good idea. Hope it's true. Focus should be on the corp and the 'space police' aspect. Not on one single Lantern.

I like the idea but even if they have many Green Lanterns at once they've got to focus on one protagonist.

instead of building to Justice League, they're building to Green Lantern

Justice League 1 and 2 will come out before the Green Lantern solo movie. so given that GL is one of the major characters of the JLA, i imagine they'll establish Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner in the Justice League movies (maybe a prominent role in Flash?) and the actual solo Green Lantern movie will be the one where they all come together and pass the torch to John Stewart.

According to comic book news.com, Chris Pine might be confirmed as Hal Jordan; which would be fantastic.

Stupidest idea ever....

Pick a character and make a good movie. Stop with the idiotic attempts to please everyone.

Remember Carol Ferris was in "Man of Steel". In the comic book, Carol Ferris is the heiress to Ferris Aircrafts and love interest of Green Lantern Hal Jordan. She is also villain/antihero Star Sapphire. In "Man of Steel", she has a cameo near the ending of the film played by Christina Ghubril Wren (she calls superman hot) and has already been confirmed to appear "Batman vs Superman". So while i prefer the John Stewart Green Lantern, they have been strongly hinting that they are using the Hal

This could work. All I know is, i'm still vouching for Idris Elba as John Stewart. Make it happen DC. Make it happen.

I could definitely see this working. If they go with a sort of X-Men route that involves several Lanterns discovering their new found powers or they could easily just have them already established since we'll have two Justice League movies at that point.

Think it's kind of stupid to cram all three Green Lanterns into one film. In terms of character development, how is that going to work out successfully with the film trying to tell three different Green Lantern members stories in one film when one of the criticisms of the original film was not enough character development? And that was ONLY just Hal.

I wouldn't mind seeing all the iconic Green Lantern members eventually in this new DC Universe, but all in the same film at once? Not so sure.

To be fair, though, the lack of character development in the Ryan Reynolds film was because of bad writing, not because one film isn't enough time to develop several characters.

Not convinced.

This seems to be pretty typical of DC & Warner's assumption that more = better.
