Josh Brolin confirmed to play Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

With all of the developments and mystery surrounding Ultron in the AVENGERS sequel, we have forgotten all about the big tease at the end of the first film showing us a glimpse of Thanos. Many expected that to mean the big purple Eternal would be the foe for the Marvel superteam in the second film, but Kevin Feige confirmed James Gunn‘s assertion that Thanos would appear in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY for a likely major villain role in THE AVENGERS 3. He also teased an actor was chosen to play Thanos, but the announcement was not coming yet.

Latino Review claims to have discovered who that actor is and it is none other than Josh Brolin. Their source is now being confirmed by The Wrap and other media outlets.

Latino Review cites James Gunn‘s post-production process as including:

An article on James Gunn‘s post-production process reported a scene with Thanos on a rocket throne in Act 3, which suggests an appearance long enough that someone is going to have to voice the Mad Titan, someone that could take the part into Avengers 3 as a major villain.

The question now is whether Brolin will be motion captured, covered in purple make-up and prosthetics, or just voice acting the role in THE AVENGERS 3. At least for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, the role will be voice only. And boy does Brolin have a good voice for the part.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY opens August 1st.
