Rumor: Justin Lin's Star Trek 3 titled Star Trek Beyond
TrekMovie.com "has it on good authority" that STAR TREK BEYOND is being used for the title of the next Star Trek movie. The site does say it may not end up being the final, official title, but apparently that name has been registered with MPAA. The title makes sense since star and co-writer Simon Pegg has teased that STAR TREK 3 will take us "where no one has gone before," but this is still only a rumor, so take it as such.
Justin Lin will start filming STAR TREK 3 soon for its planned 2016 release, which will coincide with the franchise's 50th anniversary. The core cast from the previous two movies will be back for the next installment, and joining them will be Sofia Boutella (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) and Idris Elba. Yesterday we learned that Simon Pegg is writing a "kick-ass role" for Elba.
I'm fine with STAR TREK BEYOND, but again, this is just a rumor, and Paramount will probably officially announce the title once we are closer to its production start date. So for now, I'm sticking with STAR TREK 3.
STAR TREK 3 is set to hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
