Rumor: Marvel may be developing a Captain Britain television series

03.23.2016

Captain Britain Banner

It sounds like Marvel's Captain Britain might be heading to the small screen, based on a recent tweet by Ciara McAvoy, a movie poster artist. McAvoy teased a television project based on the comic book character on her social media account earlier this week by tweeting "Who will be playing Brian Braddock in the upcoming tv series #CaptainBritain?#Marvel Stay tune!"

McAvoy also had this to say after being asked about her tweet:

I am being paid to do the promo poster so yes I’d say this is really happening. It might take a while before the announcement (either early 2017 or late 2016) They’re making a sizzle reel and it’s gonna be awesome. I can’t reveal anything yet but hopefully I’ll be able to soon. Waiting for the go ahead from the co-producer.

Captain Britain may look like a Captain America knock-off, but he's not just a British version of the character. Although he does have superhuman strength, speed and reflexes, he can also fly at supersonic speeds, and has ties to English folklore and mythology. If a Captain Britain TV series is indeed in the works, who would you like to see play him?

Well this is interesting, considering that the most well known Captain Britain is Brian Braddock, brother of mutant Betsy Braddock AKA Psylocke (yes she looks Asian because body swap with a ninja or something whatever).
For some reason I immediately thought about Vinnie Jones for the part. :D That probably won't happen though, and I'm sure Marvel won't have much trouble finding a suitable actor for Captain Britain.

I'll believe it when I see it. As interesting as the character is, he's never exactly been a commercial success. But then again, neither were the Inhumans, so who knows?

Now shhhhhh, nobody tell Fox that Pete Wisdom's a mutant! Let's get some MI-13 going!

I'm not familiar with Captain Britain at all, so I may be way off on the characterization here, but what about James McAvoy? (I'll admit to only thinking of him because of the artist's last name but I still think he'd be a good choice to headline a superhero show. He kicked ass in Wanted.)

I was under the impression that he was a mutant and would therefore fall under Fox's control. As for an actor, most of the good one's with the physicality to play him are already playing American superheroes, holding key roles in non superhero US TV shows or just making movies which would discount the likes of Jason Statham and Gerard Butler. I'm guessing they'll have to go for a newcomer and while I live here, I'm more familiar with US TV shows than British ones.

He was PART of a (kind of) mutants team (EXCALIBUR), but he is no mutant. His sister, on the other hand is: PSYLOCKE.

"Nice try. But, when you're facing Captain Britain, one chance is all you get!"

Shit yeah. Captain Britain is awesome. Right now I am thinking Jason Statham, Gerard Butler, or Ewan Mcgregor.

TV SHOW, Bruce... No feature film...
Although, you've got powers, maybe could you change that, right ?

I don't know what powers you are referring to, but Statham almost signed on for Bullseye in the Daredevil series which is a TV SHOW, and McGregor has been doing some straight to DVD shit as of late so don't think he would be above it. And Butler is not in demand as much after 300 with his string of romantic comedy duds, so I could see all three signing on to a show. Hell the other day Renner said he wouldn't mind doing a Netflix show for Hawkeye, and he is still making movies. But sure I get
