Rumor Round-Up: Johnny Depp being eyed for Doctor Strange; Jason Momoa up for Aquaman?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

It seems like every morning there's another comic book movie rumor to report. I have a couple of them for you today, and both have the potential to be awesome, if they turn out to be true.

We'll start over at Latino-Review. A source for the site has told them that Marvel is interested in having Johnny Depp play Doctor Strange, and had a meeting with the actor. Depp is going to be busy filming the next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN, but the source says Disney would be willing to move things around if he does sign on to play the Sorcerer Supreme. A solo DOCTOR STRANGE film might be in theaters sometime in 2016 as part of Marvel's Phase 3 movies, but we could see him sooner if the character ends up appearing in next year's THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON in a post-credit scene, which some think is very possible.

Yesterday a rumor surfaced about Josh Holloway being strongly considered for a part in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN, and some speculated Holloway might be up for Aquaman. Jason Momoa was also recently rumored to have a role in Zack Snyder's upcoming film, and according to Badass Digest's source, it was Aquaman. Their source also says the character will only have a cameo in the film. If Warner Bros and DC are planning on filming BATMAN VS SUPERMAN and JUSTICE LEAGUE back to back, does this mean we'll be seeing most of the members of the superhero team in the first film? It certainly looks like we might, considering how many characters have been rumored for BATMAN VS SUPERMAN.

I haven't liked most of Johnny Depp's recent films, but I think he'd be fantastic as Doctor Strange, and Jason Momoa would make one badass Aquaman. However, right now these are only rumors, and there hasn't been an official announcement from Marvel or DC. I know rumors can be annoying and/or ridiculous, but I would love for these two to be true.

THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will be released on May 1st, 2015, and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN will be in theaters on July 17th, 2015.
