Rumor: Source of Spider-Man's web shooters uncovered in Civil War (Spoiler)

08.31.2015

There have been a lot of questions raised over the past few months over how the new Spider-Man will indeed function now that he's a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

What does he look like? What suit will he wear? How involved will he be? And so on and so on...

Plenty of guessing has even gone into whether or not Peter Parker might find himself inside the Iron Spider outfit fairly soon - as soon as CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - given that he does so in the CIVIL WAR books, sporting new duds made for him by Tony Stark.

But a new rumor suggests that you won't be seeing any Iron Spider in Marvel's next film... however, Tony Stark may have a different gift to bestow upon our friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

It'll be Tony Stark who builds Spider-man's web shooters, as upon introduction, Peter Parker will be a "hero using only things a teenager has access to" for his suit. But Stark will help him upgrade along the way, turning him into the more legitimate superhero we know Spidey is.

It's a deviation from the comics for sure, so I'm fully prepared for some to crank up the rage machine momentarily, but honestly, is it really that big of a deal how Parker reaches full Spider-Man mode as long as he gets there in a way that makes sense within the greater context of the MCU? I didn't think so. Purity needs to take a backseat sometimes; this being one of them.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is prepared to rock theaters on May 6, 2016.

Should have gone with organic web shooters. Would have been less convoluted, and we wouldn't have to sit through moree Stark due ex machine which is seriously getting fucking old and lame by now.

I'm okay with this.

I've never liked that Parker was supposed to be a genius scientist. For me, it always took away from the whole relatable teenager aspect of the character. Honestly, though, I was on board for organic web-shooters as well.

Well..

I can see it being like Age of Ultron where Tony and Parker come up with a better web shooter together. If they do it that way then I don't mind. Don't have Tony do it on his own though.

You're actually misunderstanding what happened. There were always people above Kevin Feige. With the restructuring he will actually have more power and autonomy.

So a Hurley t-shirt, a hoodie, saggy jeans, a pair of Nike's, and a backpack, sounds legit! I thought they said Spiderman was already going to be Spiderman, so we don't need all this exposition! And please let Spiderman have a bit of his own ingenuity, we already know Tony is genius.

I don't care. My interest in Marvel movies has faded a long time ago. Now I prefer watching good movies. Saves me the disappointment...

It kind of make sense. I never quite understood how Peter paid for all that web fluid he would use. And he used a lot. Or how he even bought all the components for it for year without anyone ever asking why.

Sounds Awful

They cant seem to get Spiderman right with Marvel or Sony...
Now it seems Marvel is going to scrap what we thought they would do, and ride Downey Jr.s coat tails, to help gain success. To be honest I am quite sick of every avengers movie being solely based on Stark, and now it seems they will make Stark Parkers father figure. No Spidey is smart, and capable without stark, he doesnt need anyones help. Just give us a solid Spiderman please

WTF?!!?

Can't they just let sh*t be? Jamming a third Spider-man origin into a film where he is a guest star at best is a waste of time. Having him running around in a red-hooded sweatshirt fighting crime just to have "Uncle Tony" bankroll his outfit is dumb (although, it's more believable than the way the suits were created in all the other Spider-man films). Just have it be Spider-man. No more, no less. Now, if it's an improvement to the Peter Parker created web-shooters then maybe this will be fine.

Boo this noise

I was hoping he'd just be spider-man... I don't really need to see how it all begins for a 3rd freaking time

Nope. This goes against everything the Peter Parker character is about. He's been compared to Stark and Reed Richards when it comes to technical and engineering proficiency, just didn't have the cash like they did. It's what makes Spider-Man impressive to kids; he's a teenager who came up with all this stuff on his own, and can go toe to toe with the heavy hitters in both brains and brawn..

And I also think with Uncle Ben out of the picture as a 'father figure', maybe Peter will see Tony as a hero and also a father figure throughout the course of the film when they're on the same side. This way the betrayal and/or switching teams would make the situation and consequences of the feud that much more dire and lethal.

So it is ok for Marvel to change the "origin" of the web shooter, but God forbids, any studio out there trying to the same thing and you'll have a bunch of crybabies talking shittt...

Yup. Pretty much. But its not like Marvel is some random studio. They've built up such a good track record, delivering hit after hit, servicing fanboys, that people trust they know what they're doing.

It's hardly the same thing when it's actually Marvel's property. They have been changing the origins of their characters since the '60s. Remember when Tony Stark was not the adopted son of Howard Stark? Or when The Vision was actually made from the body of the original Human Torch, until it's actually not? Or when Tony Stark got his shrapnel in the Vietnamese War instead of the Gulf War?

Makes sense. I do think that a high school kid like Peter wouldn't really be able to make such elaborate scientific invention like a web shooter, because it's still one part mechanics and one part chemistry. Even when he knows how to build it, being a closeted genius that he may be, there's only so much resources a kid could get and he would have probably blown all his budget on the costume.

Are we going to find out in Avengers 3 that Tony traveled back in time and invented the Infinity Stones?

It would be cool and makes sense considering this is probably one of the many ways Stark gets Peter's trust to get him onto his side of the fight (until he eventually turns to Cap's side).

It'd be thematically consistent with how Howard Stark designed Cap's shield.

Yeah it is going against the classic Spider-Man origin having Tony make the web shooters for him. If it also turns out he makes the costume he wears that's kind of a major revision giving Stark the credit for just about all of Spidey's equipment.
It's always been a big part of Spider-Man that he's a bit of a loner type.

Peter is a Stark level intellect and inventor, he just doesn't have the resources and money. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I'm ok with this

Sounds logical that Peter could not build state of the art webshooters. And if Stark takes him under his wings it would explain that Peter takes Stark's side. He would become a much needed paternal figure to Peter.

Doesn't really matter to me...

As long as they make a great movie and give us a great version of Spider-man it doesn't really bother me how he gets his web shooters. I know people will probably disagree with me but I kind of liked how he had organic "web shooters" in the Raimi films. He's a human spider, he can shoot web, good enough for me.

I did not mind that change either, in fact Raimi's reply to this change said it best that if he has powers of a spider why would he fail to have the coolest power they have? @darkstrEam that is funny shit, but technically he would in fact have spinnerets located in his abdomen if it was truly spider like.
